Whats the difference between Friend And Subscriber?

Subs are better. Friends will NOT be notified when you upload unless they are subscribers also!

Friends are added into the friend column and are given social options on your channel. Subscribers are people who are notified when you upload things to your channel. It comes up on the youtube homepage for them if they're logged in at the time.
Subscribers are people who will automatically be notified if you post a new video. This is convenient if it's someone who posts things you like or someone who posts infrequently.
A friend is someone who can see all of your videos, but also someone where it's more convenient to message them or keep track of all their videos.

friends can be a big part too because if you post a bulletin on your channel it comes up on BOTH your friends homepage and subscriber homepage

Indeed, the subscribers.
Main value for a friend add is to have them in your contacts, for me anyway.
