I've been following Harro's excellent guide to niche selection and I have a load I want to try. It was all going so well until I tried to find advertisers for the products. The search facility on CJ is dreadful.

When you guys find a hot niche, where do you look for ads/affiliate schemes?

PS. After G searching for a new keyword, what is the minimum number of search results that would lead you to deem it to be too competitive e.g. is 100,000 search results too many for a good niche opportunity?

I personally always go for less than 50,000 and try to get the domain for that specific niche.

    For instance:

    Female Bodybuilding Supplements

    I would register the domain

    FemaleBodybuildingSupplements.com

And no, that's really not my site, just an example of a specific niche.

Thanks for the advice. This is a very complicated issue - you say never go over 50,000 results.

However, what about a keyword that has 150,000 results but there are 74,000 searches per month? That looks like a good ratio of sites to searches. Would anyone recommend taking this proportional approach?

Or is it more effective to think in absolute terms e.g. "no matter how many people search for it, there are too many search results already so I cant compete"?

150000 in the search results is not really a lot, traffic geyser reckons that with their video submission service they can rate on page 1 for most things with under 300,000 searches. That is not always ideal posting quality materials and setting it up with some quality backlinks can get you rated quite easily with searches up to about 500,000

Look for the primary keywords of your targetted niche and then just get the top people as stated above and advertise on their sites / contact them regarding having them be your affiliate -- you can get amazing super-affiliates this way
