I've been doing marketing for 15~ years and getting tired of the "how to make money online" crap. I want to start a consulting business but need some advice on how to set it up in a way that I'm not spending 50+ hours a week talking on the phone.

What have you found to be the best way for dealing with clients? How many hours do you work with them per week/month? What types of payment plans do you have?

I want to charge a flat rate per month, but don't want to spend all of my time on the phone helping with minuscule things. I would really like to take on some bigger clients and not the "how do I post a comment to my blog" or "how do I create a facebook page" type clients.

    What are your suggestions?

In the beginning 50 hours per week is the best way to start friend. I used to work over 80 hours a week for first few years.
You are in a great market being in Atlanta, you are also close to Nashville, business is booming there.

Trust me even Tim Ferris didn't start out working 4 hours per week.

Yea, I'm just trying to get away from working that much... Tired of working ridiculous hours, it's time for a break. I really would like to take on a small number of high paying clients.

The $ you will make and time you will spend will depend on your reputation in this field. If nobody has heard of you, you will need to build that reputation up, and that takes a lot of work.

If you want to find clients, I suggest you follow something that a member here once said which has been very good for me. Make everyone you know your affiliate.. anyone you know who can bring you a client, tell them they will get 15% of the $ you get from that client. People will all of a sudden start telling everyone they know about you and your consulting business.

Thanks for the information! All though I would have to disagree somewhat about the reputation part. It's all dependent on the angle you take. If you provide tremendous value up front (via a live webinar) I think people will see the value that you have to offer.

Consulting is definitely a business that you can't bullshit your way to the top. That's why I believe your knowledge is your reputation. I could easily find 10 people to vouch for me, but what does that really prove? I think a client would be most interested in the knowledge and information you will provide, and they can see this via the live webinar.

What are your opinions on this?

When I meet clients at a restaurant or a coffee shop, I shuffle the bread and then after they eat I pat my shirt and tell them I forgot to wash my hands after using the toilet
