I have a new client for my SEO work. Their website is pretty new and dont have any SEO rankings yet. I am wondering if I need to go with tiered links or not. I hear that all the time to make tier-1 and tier-2 links etc.
Does that really work? I feel like if I am promoted tier-1 links using tier-2, not our site. Anyone has a deep understanding of how the tier-2 links help? Do they really help?
I am thinking of using only tier-1. Can someone please explain in detail?

    Thanks for your time.
    Kumar.

    Hi Kumar,

I think what you are describing with the "tier" talk is a link wheel. Link wheels work great for SEO and they have been used for a long time. Essentially you want to take mini websites, build out unique content and them link them all together including the main URL property appropriately. Of course this takes lots of work, practice and an extensive SEO knowledge base. I would recommend outsourcing your current SEO projects to a professional company until get a better hang of the industry or the strategies involved.

A linkwheel's a linkwheel, a tiered system is a set of tiers. So one tier which points to your money site, usually made up of Web2.0's, then these are backed up with links pointing at them as the second tier and so forth.

If I was you OP I'd start a separate site for your client and use that as a site which links to your clients site as its main source of information. Just a simple blog site but with added videos, pictures and original articles on the same subject. Make it professional looking and informative. You'd then use that site as your main tier without affecting your clients site if all goes wrong, because to me it looks like you don't really know what you're doing. If it starts to rank well than all's good. The site you've built will help your clients site rank if you choose the keywords carefully and a majority of the traffic will lead through to your clients site due to the linking. If it bombs then hopefully it shouldn't pass on any penalisation to your clients site.

Alternatively, contract the job out to someone who knows what they are doing.

Sorry for the confusion guys. I have been doing SEO for the past 5 years. I never tried the tier 2, 3 and so on. Just curious if that worked or not. There have been many changes to Google algo recently which makes the strategy a lil confusing. I have done manual blog commenting, social bookmarking, article submissions, press releases, etc. I am familiar with not much of exact match anchor text, not too many footer links, etc. I dont know what else to say. LOL.

PooInMyLoo gave a nice idea. Thanks a lot.

Make sure your links pointing directly to your clients site are of super high quality. Unique content, High PR domains, etc. Don't over-optimize this first tier of links with too much exact match anchor text. Drip links out slowly.

I wouldn't recommend a link wheel as I've heard they're not as effective as they once were. I'd go for tiered links. Super high quality web 2.0's, high pr article directories, press releases, etc.

Then build an outer tier 2 layer that links back to the high quality tier 1 links. Then blast the shit outta the tier 2 links in a third tier. These tiered links that point to your tier 1 links will help increase the PR of your tier 1 links and the power those links have. the link juice should trickle down through to the money site.

Just make sure your tier 1's are super high quality.

Man people are really a s s holish around this website.. the point is to help people, where was this culture of superiority and elitism created? I understand every forum has it's own culture, but it's not cool to just s*it on everyone who asks questions.

I would think the main point of the forum is for SHARED info. Sharing info that goes BOTH ways. This isn't a site with a one-way help relationship like yahoo answers, after all.
