I'm looking for a total computer security package that isn't a resource hog and has average performance.

Eset Smart Security was doing great for me but it wasn't compatible with my school network. (Eset actually couldn't detect my school's wireless and just ban it!)

I thought of using AVG but getting a crack for it will be difficult.

any recommendations?

I take it you want free, Avira Antivirus with Outpost Free for a firewall and toss on Malwarebytes free as an on-demand scanner for a second opinion. That's a solid setup for no money.

If you want to buy something light with good detection, i'd go NIS2010 with Malwarebytes free.

hmm... what about "paid versions"?

Any good low resource hog ones?

I mentioned paid, NIS2010 very light and solid protection. Here is a legitimate 90 day trial:

Code:
http://spftrl2.digitalriver.com/pub/symantec/2004/NIS2010_17.0_Build_136_OEM90_ING_Direct.exe

i use ZenOK Free Antivirus and I can say it is really light, it does not slow down my pc like it is used to do before when I have norton installed
