My norton antivirus ran out a while back so I downloaded AVG. But now this shit is giving me a fit.
Every time I log it in says my shit is out of date and needs a restart. So I update and restart my pc but it still says out of date.
Can anyone tell me the best free anti-virus software to get and any other things you could recommend to help protect me from some of that malicious shit out there.
I would really appreciate all your input.
    Thanks in advance........................................P

    Kaspersky, AVG, Nod 32, bitdefender

I personally think and tested that is better to use an antivirus program based on your location; by that I mean

    kaspersky - Europe (Best choose)
    nod 32 - America
    avg - most global
bitdefender- was made in Romania and then seled to others. It's a good program but i didn't have the chance to test it out for long term.

    Best chose - Kaspersky ; ;)

No antivirus from here is free. but we are on BHW so you can find a crack or a license to work with you for some time, on this programs. :p

That's your best bet when it comes to free AV, actually it does the job better than many of those you have to pay for.

Comodo antivir is good. A little bit sensitive on warnings sometimes but it's awesome in finding pests on the computer so if uncertain when it comes to patches, keygens and cracks, just run them and then scan afterwards and if a real threat Comodo will wipe it off your HD. At least I have had great success with that program. It got a good firewall too.

Avast is my pick for a anti-virus. I sold the professional edition for a few years and may go back to it one of these days. Avast has something no that is called a boot time scan and I really like this feature. It loads up the basic areas of the operating system and scans the drive. This can be a blessing if your system is infected and finds things that sometimes a 'surface scan' can't. Norton use to offer this feature years ago, but it took someone with a phd in nuclear physics type in the query(i called norton one time and their techs did know how to do it, but agreed it was suppose to be done). I just think for the free edition is hard to beat.

I've used Norton, Trend-Micro and Kaspersky. Of the three I prefer Kaspersky best. Kaspersky doesn't eat up system resources like the other two. And Kaspersky is able to scan your ful system quickly.

Surprisingly plain ole Windows Defender has caught a few things my other stuff didn't. Also you might check out M#jorG33ks.com and look at the Read and Run section, it's all about free protection software.

i used avast, it was ok, but now i use avg, and in my opinion its better, faster and uses less resources.

nod32 always crashed on my system and caused 99% cpu usage.
