I am looking to get a better chair for my computer desk. Desk chairs usually range from $100 - $1,000+ so there is a huge range in quality.

    Anyone have any recommendations?

have you thought about going to a furniture/officsupplies store and sitting on a few?

because the "best" for one person may not be right for you.

My office chair is affectionately called "old scruffy" by my wife, it's fake leather, that has all peeled off and now has a cover from a directors style chair over it, but I wouldn't change it for anything, it's so comfortable.

I agree, sometimes the $10 chair beats the $1000 one.

Sure, if you're talking about short term comfort. If you're at a workstation for hours a day, you'll need to find something with enough support /adjustable options so that your back doesn't get fucked up. Something a $10 chair likely won't have. I've owned the aeron (awesome chair) and upgraded to a kimball skye and it's a joy to sit in it.

I agree. When it comes to chairs, you definitely need to sit in them and test them out. Some people like more support, some less.

If you have the money and feel your back is worth the pampering, then nothing beats Herman Miller

Personally? I'd recommend a standing desk - using your own 2 legs as your 'chair'.

After going through a chair a year for several years, I went to the used office supply store and bought a Steel Case that was in good condition for $25.00. Pretty much adjustable everywhere. When you sit in a chair for, most of the time, 16 hours a day, you need a good one. However, good quality and cost are two separate things. More expensive is not more often better.
