I use hostgator for hosting and name.com for registering my names. Take a look at them both, personally I wouldn't like to register my domains with my host.

Personaly I use hostgator for hosting, altough it's not the cheapest on the market, it's the best on quality/price. If you're looking for really cheap take a look at lacehost, $2/month. I have a couple accounts with them since January, so far so good.
For domains I use namecheap, maybe not the cheapest, but reliable and free Whois Protection.

Gotta remember though - the whois protection at namecheap is only free for the first year - after that it's $2.88 a domain.

As for why I don't like reging domains with the host - guess it's just paranoia really, don't put all your eggs in one basket just that sort of thought really.

Althost.com has a budget package for $15 for a year of hosting and they do completely anonymouse domain registration for $11 or $12. I've been with them for a while now with no issues. They are also offshore (Belize) so if you are doing anything blackhat, this may be a plus.

I would say go for bluehost.

It is by far the best and cheapest hosting out there.Generally the hosting is $6.95 per month and the domain is free. And if you buy from a affiliate link you will get the hosting as low as $3.95 per month.

You can find many affiliate link by searching in google for "bluehost review".

    Hope that helps:cool:

I registered my domains on the cheapest plan with a host that does the cheapest registrations/renewals, and host the sites on a different host that has the cheapest databases. Take advantage where you can.

i use 1and1 for my domains. Their interface is really slow, there registrations were cheap at the time I signed up, they aren't the cheapest anymore, in a few months I'll be shopping around again.

I use a resellers account (free) and get wholesale prices (new .com $ 4) and configure my own hosting plans. That makes it for almost everything cheaper then any public offer. The company offers 3 different server locations (US, UK, Sweden) to choose from. After 5 years I must say great.

Don't put all in your eggs in one basket.

Use a reputable registrar (if there is such a thing) for your domain names. The names are the most valuable thing you have - you build links to them, age them, etc. Don't over-focus on low price at the expense of using a crap registrar (*cough* 1and1 *cough*).

Then use a *separate* hosting company from your name registrar. A lot of companies want to sell you all their services so they can lock you in, and all you really end up with is a single point of failure.
