    IMO Instead of putting hyphens add some alphabet at the end of the keyword.

    You can try:
    Dashes => how-to-wash-a-window.com

    Plural form => HowToWashAWindows.com
    (The extra "s" gives you both keywords, but notice it makes this example grammatically wrong.
    If that matters to the type of (human) traffic you attract, don't do it. Changing it to be correct
    as HowToWashWindows.com makes more sense to the visitor but you have now lost/changed your original keyword.)

    Trailing x => HowToWashAWindowX
    (All indications are that Google ignores the x as part of its auto spell check.)

    Add a word => HowToWashAWindowZZZZ (Replace ZZZZ with something short like "now", "today", "pro", etc.)

    I have managed to rank with all 4 methods (each have their pros and cons, depending on the type of traffic you want),
    but remember the EMD is just 1 factor in your overall SEO efforts.

    google it for the keyword "Hip Hop Music" without quotes and find the first website...and notice the domain name.

    or read the thread from bhw member

    I haven't noticed a difference in performance either way on any of my sites. I read somewhere that the younger audience will adapt to whatever, but the older audience almost automatically assumes the www is there because that's what their used to. If you're doing it for the search engines and not human name recognition, Google doesn't care one way or the other. Overall it is really personal preference.

    One important note though... make sure you do a redirect in .htaccess from one to the other when you decide. Google sees the www and non-www versions as 2 different domains. If you don't redirect one to the other, they may interpret it as duplicate content. You will also end up dividing authority and backlinks between the two.
