I've never had this happen with any of my work before, hoping someone can shed some light on this:

I recently wrote up an article and got it online.

It's indexed, I know this cause if I type the URL into google, it pops up.

however, when I do a search for the keyword I targeted, I dont show up AT ALL. Checked every page of google, its been over a week now.

wtf is going on? I was told its "Dancing in google waiting for big G to choose where to place me" but its been over a week now...I've never had this happen (normally once indexed I pop up in the results somewhere)

anyone able to shed some light on this?

Maybe there is more competition for this keyword than your realize. Google may just feel that your version of this content is not worth placing in their results. And also, a week is nothing if you are just letting google do all the work here. Build links to the article and you should rank it higher/faster.

Well when I first got it online I did the following:

-2x pingings (pingomatic and another I dont recall)
    -around 10 - 15 profile backlinks

but once I noticed I was indexed but not placed in results it made me nervous so I stopped :S

*edit* also, i realize if I build backlinks itll help me rank higher, but faster? If Google has already indexed me (as stated, verified via typing URL into google and seeing my page pop up) then shouldn't I be listed in results for the keyword by now?

This is the main point here. You may be targeting the keyword "Eat Bananas" but Google doesn't consider you worthy to rank for the keyword yet. But, also in your article you mention "Monkeys love to Eat Bananas" and they consider you worthy to rank for THAT term.

Just because you are indexed, doesn't mean google did it based on the term you are targeting.

This is your problem. Create some anchor text backlinks with your keywords in it. Google will pick it up and you'll get indexed accordingly. Google will eventually figure it out but this will speed up the process.
