I have found a couple domains I want to scoop up and the .com is taken. For SEO purposes, etc, should I get the .net, .org, or both. I don't know much about this type of thing at all, so I'm wondering if one is better than the other.

Thanks

.net for sure....My main site is a .org and it pisses me off to this day that I have invested so much effort building up a .org...I have a few .net's and they all perform well in serps.

Thanks man. I want to buy up a bunch of these but wanted to see about this first. So the consensus is that .net's are much better for this?

i dont think there's any difference in terms of SERP, however .net seems to be more popular

obviously its the .net
but get other tld and host in separate class c IP

.org has served me pretty well.Never tried .net though. Only coms and orgs (oh and info :D ) In my country orgs are very popular (besides country specific tld)

I would prefer .net, as it's much more popular than .org.

I think that it depends from your project main idea. .org and .net are both good. And suggestion for you : maybe try long tailed keyword rich domain name with .com ending? - maybe this would be two bunnies for the dinner? :)

Both are good for different reasons but as far as the SERPs are concerned I don't think it really matters that I've seen. .net seems to be more popular but as with .com I think it's more just what people are used to more than whether either is "better" than the other.

no difference.. Until you have a site that is known among people by name and they reach it by typing it in address bar.

I get the exact match keyword bonus in google for both .net and .org in the serps. A .org address would be better if you are trying to appear as a non-profit (i.e.: targeting job hunters) vs. a .net which appears as a commercial business.

I second what thedorf has said. I can't seem to sell anything on the few .orgs that I have, but it may just be my audience -- they'll click the adsense ads, but won't make a purchase.

If done right you can outrank a .edu or .gov with a .info (almost at least..)

Don't bother about the ending unless you want people to easy remember your domain name. Instead focus on the getting visitor parts and maybe some SEO if finding that useful...
