When a .com is not available on an EMD which would you prefer to buy for an authority site?
Bluechair.net - it ranks just as good as .com one.
net and org are fine, but if someone with the EMD.com is already on the 1st position it might be hard to compete with.
Also most people when typing a domain name by default would type it with .com, so it's quite possible that someone would visit your site and remember the name, but the next time he wants to visit it he might type your site's name.com and basically you will be sending traffic to your competitor
I do already understand that, and was more interested in which formats people think have more power and would use if the .com was not being used. I probably wouldn't use an EMD if the .com was already being used, but if it wasn't available and had a holding page, or just didn't exist I would consider using one of the above versions.
All well and good but I'm trying to make money not spend it
I would go with .net
pretty much the dot net one is the more generic in comparison with org that stands for organisation
You just about always want to use a dot com URL since it comes off as more natural, but you will want to avoid hyphens in your URL if you can. Are there any other alternatives or does it have to be bluechair or blue-chair?
There is always alternatives like mybluechair.com and yourbluechair.com, but I thought they would not be as good such as bluechair.net.
Separate names with a comma.
