So, I wanted to build a blog on a site to get some more "notoriety" and do all the good stuff that big G wants us to do. However, the web guy told me that for security reasons it's better to make a subdoomain or buy a new domain (and I tend to agree since the main site is pretty well reputed and I'd basically install WP which as everybody knows is not the most secure CMS).

In either case, there would be 301 redirects from the site to the blog for the articles already on the site, and of course, there will be a direct link on the blog towards the site. I was wondering what's best as it comes to SEO practices.

Now, everybody knows that Google treats and indexes each page individually and the glue of the site are the links. So, would it be easier to rank a new domain and point it at the main site or to rank a subdomain since having the blog in root is no option?
