    Hi

This one blog bounced to the 100,000 ranks after officially opening in mid June. Mostly the reason is because they have a sister site that has alexa rank of 10,000s linking to it.

I'm just wondering what are a few ways to compete with big blog networks like this?

Simple said: Good quality unique content that users want to read. And new good unique content as often as possible so the readers have something to come back for.

Then you can start to build a community around it :)

You can also comment by hand on their ranking posts to dilute the kw density and relevancy of the page, if it doesn't have too many anchor'd backlinks.

I do get good unique content. I make 2-3 posts daily or every other day.

Well, they don't allow linking back in the comments so commenting would be point less right?

Is there a way to see all of their backlinks? I've check alexa, but it only shows several 400s

Updating your site regularly, with quality unique content, building quality backlinks from relevant, high pr sites. Things like this dont happen over night...

As has been said, the best way is to write unique content. I'd go so far as to say try to create the type of content that can go viral: write funny/witty posts and articles, create cool videos related to your niche, Come up with funny useful lists of tips/info.

You could even maybe stir up a bit of controversy concerning the big blog to get some visitors and get noticed.

Try to find a way to differentiate yourself from the other blog while also providing people with the information they want. Make your site UNIQUE. Then find ways to get yourself noticed from visitors (post comments on the big blog, offer to do guest posts on related blogs, build backlinks etc.)

In the end, no amount of tricks will make you beat the other bigger blog (long term) if your content isn't up to par.

Unique content is a definite. But you can also use mashup content and write a 100 to 150 word intro to what you are posting. Another way to compete is keywords. Make sure your content is keyword optimized and themed to give the searcher what they are looking for. Not all big sites do this. Focus dude.

Look at your backlink strategy. Check out your competitions backlink strategy. Anchor text, keyword in domain name, backlinks to a particular page etc...

I was thinking of going through all the high rank sites on Technorati and commenting on them. Is that even worth my time?

Do adding my blog link in the website section even count? I've noticed on alexa it doesn't list the blogs that I've done this. Neither does the google backlink thing on the wordpress dashboard.
