title says it all, what would happen if you only did onpage SEO

so in essence, keywords, meta, description, header, LSI, etc

No off-page SEO, which would mean no backlinks, no social bookmarking, youtube , facebook, article directory, etc

It's basically white hat. do you guys think it would be good enough to rank well in google (maybe first page even), if you're site is about a niche (long tail keywords)

another thing to include is that the content would be high quality and original.

Do you guys think it can rank? how much does off-page SEO affect a ranking? 10%? 50? 90?

    thanks for all replies.

ive had sites get traffic just from onpage seo but would either have to be very low competition or lots of people making natural backlink for you(the horror) to rank top

Yes, after penguin it seems to me easier to rank this way. So I would first do all the possible white hat stuff, wait few months and if I still dont rank where I want then I would slowly start with the most safe black hat methods.

I have never seen it done with only on page SEO but I have done it with No on page SEO but only off page SEO.

But I think it there is almost no competition it would be possible.

You can rank well w/o backlink building if the niche is not very competitive. Or you target long tail.

You'd need good content to have any success - only unique content is going to get people to help you build natural backlinks.

    How do natural backlinks work?
Just some extremely nice guy that links back to the post that he thought was helpful? These days, you'd get one of those rarely, am I missing something here? G can't seriously expect us to wait so long for a natural backlink..

Think about what you just said. So you never linked something online as a reference for someone else?

No I dont think so mate....

sounds like a dumb idea, but test it if you want. youd need to get some outside traffic somehow, someway. then you can get some traffic and maybe natural links.

a site with no links = not gonna rank well

Some key points. If you are in a niche that is not overly competitive then good on-page SEO can usually get you some pretty good rankings.

    Hmm, good point.

With the same idea about no offpage SEO in mind, how do the whitehat people do it? Surviving only with natural backlinks and a strict rule of absolutely no fake ones? Just curious.

For a very easy niche, yes you can. Also for long tails if you're optimized enough for it.
I'd never even try to rank a site without on-page seo done.
Onpage alone can't rank a site in a decent niche which will make you money. And you can't always rank a site without on-page. On-page SEO is necessary for ranking, but it isn't the last step, just an important one.

Linkbaits. Guest post etc. Focusing more on quality rather than using spun articles and automated backlinks.

a lot of my offline clients don't even know about SEO. when i first started doing SEO locally, I might get a client who would have an alexa between 250k-100k..so i'd be rattling off about tools, seo methods, and terms, and they'd look at me crazy because i automatically assumed they were as astute as I was when it came to "seo" because of the amount of monthly uniques they were receiving. so obviously they won't get the "unnatural links" message if they never heard of a scrapebox, xrumer, etc...so how are they successful? unique content + paid traffic...

If your niche is not so competitive that you can rank with just the on-page stuff, is there really going to be enough traffic for what you are trying to accomplish? And how long are you willing to wait for a good ranking?

I think it will be enough for you to get the page rank. Because as you are saying that you have good content collection then it should not be a problem at all.

Yes you could rank a site to page 1 of google using these methods but competition would need to be low, content would need to be 100% unique, and you would need A LOT of content.

Yes you can. I still have autoblogs that are ranking and making money. I mean, scraped content shit autoblogs ranking for low competition keywords. They even manage to get some "natural" backlinks somehow, I don't even know how. However, you'll need a tons of content. My autoblogs are posting 1-3 times per day.

I am testing this right now. Results are not yet in but it looks like it's working for low competition keywords.
