As i want this site to always get better and achieve higher quality posts etc... On registering how about blocking all free services. And only allowing your own domain name email. For example blocking all gmail, yahoo, msn, me.com, and everything apart from your own email at your domains. Even if you dont do this you could easily forward. This for one would cut down people from re-registering when banned, cut down newbies and lots more what do you think of this idea. Just a thought
Having a paid for domain is one of the basics of marketing, if you are at all interested in IM then you gotta have one, if you don't have one then you have ulterior motives for joining. I agree this is a good idea
It's ok, but it means that the email address at a domain is associated with BHW losing a lot of the annonymity that is needed from cpa networks etc. Emails are stored in cleartext in the database, can you just imagine the field day CPA Networks would have if this info was ever hacked? On that note, it may be useful as when people from CPA Networks register you can see their network
crashed makes a good point about annonymity. But I think it does help with making sure people are really going to make a legit attempt at IM
If I am reading you right. It looks like it would improve quality but you would lose a lot of new people because some might not have a domain name email. So this site may not grow much after implementing this. Mostly it sound good though. My 2cents
That would be okay with me, but I think that the forums are good for noobs comming in. When I first came to this forum I couldnt afford a domain or hosting. Now it's not a problem at all. So, other noobs who come in not being able to afford a domain should be able to learn from the bottom and build up too.
Aye there needs to be a differenciation between the forum growing with people who have no real interest in marketing, and people who do have an interest. What's the point in these people joining and the community as a whole expanding, if these people don't contribute, don't help and don't think. Having a domain and hosting shows at least that you are willing to take the first true step in marketing. Plus it would also stop a lot of the spambots (although the admins are great, stopping them at source would free them up to do more important work)
while I own a ton of domains, I'm honestly too lazy to setup a mailserver on any of my servers. I prefer my gmail account.
How about if you do like a compromise. Give them x many days after signing up to have a domain name email? Something like 30 days. Feel free to ad to the idea it just popped into my head.
I think it's a good idea.. Those who wants to use gmail/yahoo/etc can just forward all the bhw emails there anyway.
Sure it would add to the quality and people who can contribute good stuff have their own domains for sure. Just try it out and see -m
Excellent idea. What about having a system where it's referal only or where the members must get a "sponsorship" from a member who's been here xx number of days and made xxx posts? Some newbies contribute some awesome ideas so I don't think we should completely block them out.
Invite-Only system would be great.. And COULD somebody tell me why i have negative reputation?I didn't do anything wrong
What about creating a new group for those with domain based emails and restricting access to parts of the forum to only those in that group? That way you can kinda have a noob board for basic getting started stuff?
