What will never fall out of favor with white hat SEO? In other words, Google will allow these methods for all time. Getting backlinks was looked at as bad, for example, but it used to be considered kosher.

I think it is pretty safe to assume that noone can give you a definite answer on this one.

It may very well, for example, happen that buying likes on the usual sites to get something "fake-viral" could harm in the close future.

Google will always favor a site with good, unique content. One that is updated regularly and appears to be ran naturally.

So far big and I mean super big sites have been faring quite well, of course they go up and down in traffic, but when you get thousands and thousands of hits on gazillion long tail KW searches, your site will keep making money.

Of course, Google could decide to single out your site (if say it gets reported for some reason) or hit a whole category of sites (the case with article directories not too long ago) and then it's back to the drawing board

There is most possibility that Google will pay attention towards guest postings. As some time there is so many spam links are found on these post. By the way white hat seo will never allow to penalize any website on Google.

To hell with Google, there will be other search engines but they are all ruled by relevant content for the reader. So should you!

Adding unique content and sharing it on major social networks, without manipulating followers and retweets is about the only thing I guarantee won't ever fall out of favor with Google. Otherwise the goal posts are constantly moving.

+1 for content. In a few years Google will rank sites mostly based on the factor how relevant, good, unique, etc. your content is.
