I'm really considering to move there next year or the year after that. Just got a few questions to ppl who can answer :)

How much money should I take with me for start up to rent a place and find a basic job. Also how could I get citizenship to live there ?

Your 2nd Question answer: Marry american women. You will get american citizenship. Lot of paper work involved.

they do have a green card lottery, but for the most part, unless you get lucky, the process can take 3-5+ years... I know this because my dad married a foreigner, she got over immediately, but then it took years and many a hoops jumped thru to get her fam over...

I agree with everyone here so far. The shit is about to hit the fan. Here in CA you will not find an appartment for less than $650 in Indiana you can find an apartment for $350.

It's a sunny day in Myrtle Beach, SC!
I can't comment too much on this as I don't know anyone who has moved here from another country so I'm not sure of the requirements...

I pay $800 month for my townhome (its nice) and I am a 30 second walk or less till I'm on the beach =)

(my avatar is where I live). It's a nice place to live if you do your own thing, but if your looking for work I would go elsewhere. Myrtle Beach is a big tourist spot, so you can only find work for 3 months out of the year for the most part.

I have definately got to get out of the UK lol. Rent in UK for half decent flat in my town which isn't great is around £800 (around $1400). My bro lives in a one bedroom flat at £320/month (around $500).

PS Jake, don't move too soon, I am making arrangements to move out there! Anything to get away from this shite weather lol.

I would learn everything you need to learn to make your life comfortable before I would move anywhere. What I mean is, there are so many ways to make a good living just in this forum, if you could master a couple of methods, you could go and live anywhere.
I would stay put, till you mastered the methods, then take your knowledge with you. You could have more time for studying and just get a part time job in an internet cafe or somewgere there are plenty of people so you can put your ads everywhere.
One thing for sure, take your time in this forum, it's a must.
    Good luck!!

Welcome in the club, mate. :) I'm planning to move to US too, but probably next year. I did some research about any immigration options to US. If you have a business in your country and want to move it to the US you can apply for E2 visa for investors - that's the legal and hardcore way (although it depends). You can also marry US citizen and get a green card - the easiest way I think. And if you like risk, go to US on tourist visa and stay illegally :p

As for money, I guess it shouldn't be so much more expensive - I mean I'm from Eastern Europe and prices of apartments are comparable - I've seen many offers for renting a whole house for like $1000-1500.

Like people said b4, it all depends of the region you choose to live - I'd like to move to San Francisco, so I'm gonna have to be prepared to spend like few thousand bucks for start-up LOL :D Anyway, good luck to you mate (and to me :D )

I would move out with 3-12 months living expenses saved up. The United States is huge so the cost of living varies greatly. I pay $2,200 for a 3 bedroom apartment, however other places you could pay $800.

    Does location matter to you?
    Use this for recommendations: http://www.findyourspot.com/

If you eat out a lot, plan on $8-20 a meal depending on what you like (I'm not talking about fast food). If you cook your own food mostly it varies greatly but I would budget $300 for food.

    So use http://www.findyourspot.com/

And if you find an apartment for $800 you would need:

First month plus security deposit $800+800
    $300 a month food
    $50 internet
$50-200 electricity and water depending on where you live
Do you want a phone? $50

So $2,000 minimum for first month, then $1,200 per month depending on how many months you want to save up.

Sometime within the next few years there is supposed to be a immigration overhaul, so just do as the Mexicans do find a way in and stay under the radar until the reform happens. The reform is supposed to streamline the green card process for illegals. It's just a thought but if your good looking you could always come to the US and find a fat girl to marry. lol

Come to New Zealand! It's pretty easy to get over here. Just apply for a part time uni course, then drop it or complete it. And boom your in the country! I think rent's reasonably cheap here depending where you want to live.
