Lets say foodfordogs.com is taken

is food-fordogs.com same as good ?

or if foodfordogs.com should i take foodfordogs.net ? :D

thats for the help !

Personally I would go for the .net and then .org if those are taken I would do something like:

foods-for-dogs.com .net .org

But would not do:

foods-fordogs.ocm .net .org
or
foodsfor-dogs.com .net .org

Instead I would do something like:

foodsfordogssite.com or something like that

Don't add a prefix. They don't seem to work as well.

Put hypen in keywords and buy if you need better SEO result.

If the hypen domain is not available , get a .net ..than comes .org

and if all are not available than comes the

iEMD.com
eEMD.com
Zemd.com

A word added in front or back of the emd... I prefer front.

If you cant get the .com, try .net, .org, or .co. Or even if you're trying to rank locally(US) you can use a .us. If you can't get any of those TLDs, try using a partial. Like, best-food-for-dogs.com, etc.

Why the front? In my opinion Google identifies relativity to a keyword by positioning in the URL ie. the most relative keywords are at the front.

I'd be interested to hear what others think about this.

So if you search for: food for dogs in google (with spaces) the domain with hypens could have an advantage and if they search for foodfordogs (without spaces the other domain would have advantage ...

Good information. I'm always looking for exact match domain names and wondering what to do when they are taken.
Thanks

When the .com is taken, then the .net is the next best choice, followed by .org.

After that I think I would start looking for modifying words, like "good", "gourmet", "best", or "cheap". I would shy away from putting too many hyphens in the URL, though. Something like "food-fordogs" looks quite messy so I would stay away from that altogether.

It's better to be the #1 for your target keyword than to be at an immediate disadvantage, so instead of trying to get as close to the EMD - and if you can't get the .net or .org domains - then you're best going for a different target phrase, even if the change is fairly superficial.

I agree with this. You can also add a letter which is a 95% match as well.

keywordx.com, bkeyword or ekeyword.com something like that work.
