I have been browsing this forum for a couple of weeks now, but this is my first post. I was going through a website and noticed that they have these backlinks but when I look at the actual page where the links are at I cannot find them. When viewing the source I see the links there. When searching on the page I see the links are found but do not see it anywhere on the page. Since I cannot post the actual URL, maybe someone can shed some light on what is going on.

The backlink seems to be from some official site, and why would they link to out to an unrelated website.

Is this site being hacked? How is the site getting these links? Is the actual website selling links to buyers?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Either they are hacked, or it's SAPE type links

When searching in source code I don't see any hidden codes.

I though SAPE links are not hidden and you can actually see the links.

For these links you cannot see them, but when searching it does find them. What does that mean. I have never seen anything like that before.

Its called Cross Site Scripting or XSS Attack and if you look closely at the code, you can see the linking element is hidden via Display:none. It'll show up in the html code but for general visitors, the link is hidden from the webpage.

I've found people have been injecting these on some big name news sites recently too.

These type of links are created by hacking server side scripts; it can be a css/js and I've never seen these kinda topics discussed before in BHW so I can't share more in detail I'm sorry. Its unethical and the victim sites may/maynot be punished by google and classify them as malware sites.

The website looks like a high authority site. Some sort of international news site similar to what the states have like the "New York Time", I doubt google will punish them. Still wondering how does a person get links like that? I did some research and does not look like SAPE links. Does anyone have any idea?

I've seen it before as well. The links can be found in high authority sites and you can only find them in the source code. Anchor text for highly competitive terms like 'louis vuiton outlets'.

I have seen these warning, but never had a second thought about it.

I doubt one person is able to put thousands of these links on these high authority site, must be some company that is doing it. Anyone knows what company that is doing this or how I can get some of these links? Would be interesting to do a case study if I am able to get these links.

It was placed by hacking into the website in question, obviously.

Hidden links are against the webmaster guidelines and will therefore attract punitive action from Google against your site if you are caught.

It'll work and they'll catch on eventually. I've written a detailed reply about how google identifies blogroll/footer links, I'll see if I can find it and PM you the link.

Dude, you just said you're interested to learn blog comments on the other post and here you say you can provide them?
