The idea of starting a popular YT channel has always been in the back of my mind, I have all day, everyday to spend on this as well since my offline business is automated and affiliate earnings are too. I have been looking into different topics over the weekend and one that kept popping up was reacting to recent drama, although it's hardly new it would seem to be the most obvious choice, if you don't really have much else to offer.

The issue comes down as always though to finding good content, I wanted to ask about any other ideas you guys have come up with regarding this. I know YT are very strict regarding copyright so you can't exactly just take videos about cats and cute pets and repost them without getting warnings/bans.

I would say a gaming channel, but too many people there already, and you need to be great at the game or have huge boobs..

Who says that CS:GO and COD are the only games out there..? You make a game vid of everything want some examples?
    - League of Legends ( ranked plays, fails, top plays, champion play through)
    - World of warcraft ( money guides, dungeon guides , raid guides, Pet guides, mini game guides, world boss guides, mount hunt guides)
    - Heroes of the Storm (champion guides )

Every month there are dozen of games getting released..

It depends how you want to go about getting the content you can go onto the video editor and create your own compilations using cc. I have never received any penalties for doing this i guess if you just took one video and kept reposting that then it maybe a problem? As for niche i always find fighting goes viral straight away without much effort really as long as you actually put effort into it.

Yeah, fighting compilations (like on world star hip hop) are popular topics. As said above taking raw gaming footage and editing it to something like fails, headshot mix. You could even create a compilation of videos you enjoy like those 'people are awesome' compilations or 'owned' or 'epic fail'

I run several music YouTube channels. Music accounts for 60% of all YouTube views, and with YouTube Red many people is also listening to tunes offline and on the phone (increasing watch time and audience retention).

A good method is to find a few "no copyright music" or Creative Commons channels (I run a couple of those), and develop a bot to download and re-upload the music they use (changing the background, ie only taking the sound from the video). There's some people doing that (not me, I focus on quality and building a brand), although you have to be careful with the sources, normally you won't have problems with copyright but for most you "would" have to credit the artist.

Yeah sure but if it doesn't bring in viewership for the YouTuber then its not a good use of said YouTubers time.

Part of the reason I could never do the YouTube gaming channel is because you're forced into playing games for viewership regardless if they're good or not. A "channel worth making" I am guessing is a channel that makes money, if OP was making a channel for fun then they would do whatever they want, not whats popular on YouTube.

You'll quickly find 100s of money generating channels with CS : GO and COD and Minecraft try finding money generating youtube channels for LoL, WoW and Heroes of the Storm.

Unfortunately YouTube's algorithms have for a long time always been geared towards what is popular not what is a good game or a good lets play. This is the harsh reality and there is a lot of drama on YouTube right now so I would say now is your chance to make a drama channel.
