Hey, just wondering what experience have you guys had with regards to SerpIQ and its competitions index. Have you found it to be a good tool?

I tackled one niche according to its competition index. Now about a few months in my website seems to be starting to turn a profit though I did little work. The competition index was 40.

Now I'm looking at another niche with a CI of 39 with slightly less traffic but it still looks inviting. The only thing holding me back being the fact that a Youtube video and Amazon are taking up the top spots and a good few EMD's parked up in the top 10 as well. What would be your impression?

    Thanks for any input!

    Hey there,

I work with serpIQ and I'll give you a quick breakdown of the CI. The CI is meant to be the quickest snapshot possible of the competitive level of a serp, so you can quickly identify relatively easy or relatively hard SERPs. It's hard to say exactly how tough your KW would be without knowing it, but just know that you should always take the CI with a grain of salt - it's just one number that approximates hundreds of datapoints. I hope that was helpful and if not, feel free to PM me!

What kind of a CI should we be looking for for a Micro Niche website for someone starting out?
Besides amazon youtube and another retailer there seems to be no other tough competition. What else could I take in to account?

Anything under 35 or so is going to be "generally easy". Of course, when you see something like Amazon up there, you have to adjust that a bit. Should only be up there for product-based searches, so you could potentially take a look at an informational site with CI < 35 and build out a little ad-supported site.
