What "triggers" karma gain or loss in Reddit?

Does anyone know any actions that trigger? Not all actions are meant to increase or decrease karma. Here is what I (think) know so far:

    - Going to someone's profile and voting on them directly off their profile does not trigger karma
    - New accounts or accounts with very low scores may likely not trigger karma
    - Multiple accounts in the same IP address as each other DOES actually trigger karma but to a certain extent (I believe it can be based on how many times you voted that account and/or how much karma was on the voting account).
    - "Serial voting" does work if it isn't voted directly from the profile.
    - Clicking the post link from the profile then voting on it does trigger.

Does anyone have any triggers they want to share?

Good question. I can't seem to get my karma up, even though I am an active member and never spam.

I am a newbie to reddit so not an expert by any means but it feels the same way to me. I visit the site occasionally, post and comment occasionally and my Karma is essentially the same.

    I do know the following:
    1) They really monitor new accounts and suspicious 'spammy' activities
    2) Ghost Banning: If they suspect your of being a spammer, they will Ghost ban you, which means that no-one in the community sees your stuff except you! So you can go on forever, thinking that you are posting, sharing, etc.... but all the while you have been banned and the only person seeing your posts and comments is you!

For accounts that aren't brand new, how do they monitor any "manipulative voting" activity?
