Being that this is my first thread, a brief intro:

I'm 20 years old, from Canada, and my background is mostly in computer science. I have been (mostly lurking) around this forum for a few months now while I learned much of the newbie stuff, and now I'm beginning to post on some of the threads. I like both software and hardware, and, besides becoming an Internet Marketer, I am interested in building up a greyhat hacker type of skill set.

I look forward to getting to know everyone on this great forum :)

    Now onto the topic:

So far I have gained a fairly good understanding of market research and SEO, as well as the technical aspects behind setting up web pages, monitoring traffic, running ads, and building backlinks, and I have accounts with the main affiliate networks (cb, cj, amazon) as well as adsense.

    So now I'm wondering...

What are the books and/or training materials that you have found the most helpful, when you started out, for learning to drive conversions after you have traffic going to your page?

I'm looking to gain a solid foundation of knowledge that I can build off of as I gain experience. I have already read some stuff on this forum and other places, but I don't want to miss out on anything you guys can recommend.

    Thanks in advance ;)

Ebooks and other stuff are a waste of money. Theres a download section here that has plenty of stuff for you to look threw and this forum is very informational.

I agree, have you searched the materials readily available in the downloads section? I'm sure you will find everything you need by scanning through all of the past posts.

I'd suggest doing the 30 Day Challenge. It covers a lot of the basics that will help you create your own ideas and profit rather than follow others "methods".

The basic idea of the challenge can be seen in the video at: www.thirtydaychallenge.com

You do not need to enter your email, just after watching that go to:
    www.thirtydaychallenge.com/training/

Also avoid paying for ANYTHING while you're in the learning process. All you need to know to get started is available free. Once you've learned the basics you'll know what is worthy of your money and what isn't.

Since you already have some knowledge you can skip through the stuff you already know, it's a pretty good and free course.

Take the 30 day challenge with a grain of salt...

It will show you how to do things and give you some insights, but doing your OWN thirty day challenge, or your own ANYThING is the key - take action, make money.

I found this a few days ago and I've been going through the videos. There are some good tutorials in it about Market Samurai and other tools. Thanks for mentioning it.

Another quick question: What's the best marketing book you've ever read?

I know that at a basic level marketing hasn't changed in thousands of years. I want to get started on the right track, absorbing the right information, so which books do you think are the best?

To be honest I've never read a good marketing book, it's all just rehashed basics. No matter what anyone tells you if they have a "secret" they are not going to share it. If you are lucky enough to get on TheValut.bz I'd suggest downloading some good Webinars from the SEO section.
