OK so getting back into WhiteHat SEO and looking for some advice on what would be the best 'tool' for the marketing element.

For example are link wheels and pyramids still useful? If so what tool will run fairly good?

Initially I'll be linkbuilding and social bookmarking along with article submission. An all in one tool would be excellent

    Cheers

Doesn't surprise me, everything has changed a fair bit since I was last involved.

I'd love to do everything by hand but it's just so overwhelming. I could really do with a 'hand' to break it all down into chunks I can manage on a daily basis, anyone fancy lending 'that' hand and sharing a daily program for SEM/SEO?

Senuke and UltimateDemon are AIO tool's
But be careful with footprints or your site may be screwed in further Google updates

Why would you say that? All tools are effective as long as you know how to use them safely and properly. To OP, best tool for right price right now is Ultimate Demon. It's bookmarking module is best of its class by far. You have complete flexibility over scheduling/dripping, and most importantly can import your own list of sites. It has ability to scan for PR, so you can submit to only the highest quality sites at your own pace. Use either all original content, or manually spin so that results are completely human readable. The article submitter that comes with it is top notch, and you can create link pyramids and wheels as complex and deep as you would like, again with total control over the content that gets used, and which sites are being submitted to at which pace ie links per day you set up. Backlinking is still the way to rank sites, you just can't spam the shit out of them like you once could. That's all.

Lesid1: Thanks for that comprehensive reply. So essentially then I can do what I used to but make it more organic in it's approach, like 6 random social bookmarks a day and so on?

Jass11: You mention footprints, I assume anything which will make the backlinks look like they are auto generated?

    Thanks :)

6 bookmarks a day won't get you far friend. There's a lot of paranoia out there about SEO these days. Most of it is BS. Here's a quick sum up. Panda: Spam/Copied/Spun content Penguin: Junk link from junk sites esp spammed blog comments, unrelated blogs, and junk forums and directories. Stay away from those things and you'll be fine. High PR bookmarks are safe in my book. Make sure you're linking all urls on your site, not just home page. Have diverse backlink profile from many many platforms and link types, again concentrating on high PR authority sites when it comes to linking your homepage. Tier I's and II's you can be a little more liberal with.... Stay the hell away from AA Scrapebox blasts, they will kill all properties. Only use those for indexing bookmarks and profiles.

Full disclosure: I do IM and sell SEO services for a living, and know what I'm talking about.

    Cheers.

lol 6 was just a arbitrary figure as I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing again yet, but thanks for clearing that up, most would have ignored it :)

TBH I've got a bit of information overload at the moment so the overview on Panda and Penguin was very well received - cuts out all of the here-say and conjecture. I'm ok with content as I'm a professional writer here in the UK freelancing for several publications, so that's an easy part for original content.

So the links are relevant and contextual from verified sources as opposed to empty profiles, or being a link whore and taking anything that will link to you.

What's considered a sensible social portfolio these days? Last time I ran anything I had around 50 profiles each on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube, but it was easy to get followers on those back then, I assume it's much harder these days? Or are they used essentially for the link itself now rather than actually marketing with them?

lol so much I have to re-learn. I feel like I'm a newbie here now lol.

Social Media Presence is still working a treat. Retweets of your posts/urls are great. Easy traffic from Instagram and Pintrest ATM which will help your SEO. Bookmarks and Wikis from high PR sources. And high PR profile from authority sites where you have manually gone in and done some commenting on the forum.... That should get you on the way up the SERPS :)

    Cheers.

err, I rank/move urls with just bookmarking all the time. I track all my results constantly with Rank Tracker.... so WTF are you talking about sunshine?

Bookmark blasts are the easiest and safest way to produce a well rounded anchor diverse backlink profile to your property. Bookmark all internal urls for wide spread of niche related keywords, and concentrate more specific keywords to your homepage/money url, and you've got yourself a solid foundation to continue to build links from, and you'll already be in the top 50 for many competitive terms.
