If Google doesn't give any SEO value to putting our keyword in the metatag, wouldn't putting our top keywords in there actually hurt us? If we got a page that did really well on Google and our competitor tried to find out what keywords we were targeting, that could actually hurt us if they started targeting them.

So what should I put in the metatag then?

true, you probably don't want to disclose all of your keywords in there, but it may be a good idea to include some keywords for G to work out what your page is about - i have seen examples in the past where the meta tags have been referenced by G but not sure if it still applies

True - Mr. G does not give kw metatag any value. But you never know what they will do in 6 month from now or how other search engines work. It takes 2 sec to put in 2-3kw, so why not do it.

Competitors - yes. They can see your kw, but who cares. Will your competitor find something, that he/she can't find by looking at your url, h1, h2, h3, photo file name, etc?

I don't even use it anymore.
I use description, but not keywords. It's a waste.
