Sorry for the noob question, but I have searched this on the form looking for tutorials/guides and couldn't find much.

I know it stands for virtual private server, but what is it? From my understanding it is basically just a fast computer with a very strong internet connection where you control what programs it runs...is that right or am I way off?

If you can link me to any threads/guides, that would be great. Also, what VPS do you recommend for a noobie (I plan on using AMR and Scrapebox shortly)

    Thanks guys!

VPS is like to your personal computer but located in data center. You can run an operating system on vps.

Do not read guides; simply take trial of VPS . you do not need to pay money for some days of trial.

There is many options in VPS's so basically it can be a really fast computer and a slow computer. The benefits of a VPS is basically, YOur not using your home land line, The usuall VPS has a 100 mbps Speed which means it can post a ton of links with programs such as Xrumer, and Scrapebox, if you get one from another country where there is no Spam laws, you will never have problems vs. your home land line. Hope this helps :)

Yeah a VPS is a dedicated server, that will make any program you run on the Vps, insanely fast.

    Alright sweet, thanks guys!

How exactly do you run programs on a VPS....do you connect to it thru your home internet line?

If you guys know of any videos showing someone use one, that would be awesome.

    Thanks again

A Virtual Private Server is just a virtual machine created on a single physical server. The total disk, memory, cpu and bandwidth is shared between all the Virtual Machines. Its cheaper than a dedicated server because as mentioned its resources are shared amongst the total number of VM's created...still gets you a powerful solution for the price of a dedicated server, just depends what you are looking for and how much you have to spend...

VPS is not a dedicated server! Its a VM that runs on a physical server, it may be dedicated to you, but it's not a dedicated server....totally 2 different things...

    I'm a teen marketer...I don't have a credit card:( so I can't use that one...I do have a paypal though!

I'm making about 500$ a month from article marketing....I have heard VPS can be under 10$ a month so I am very interested in using one if it can boost my sales

For under $10 per month you would not be getting a very could server IMO - not sure who that is through, but typically a VPS server runs around $100 per month for anything decent enough to run your apps on..... are you looking to run a specific application on there?

There are different types of VPS solutions, Linux and Windows are 2 of the most common ones.... you would need to use an RDP client (Remote Desktop Protocol) to connect to Windows and a terminal ssh type program for Linux unless you get them to install CPanel for you or something along those lines.... like I said depends what you are wanting to use it for.

Shared or Reseller Hosting works well too, but if there is an application you want to run that needs allot more resources than your ISP at home is willing to provide then VPS would be a good and reasonably cheap alternative...hope that helps.

Aaric told it in the right way , it a server located somewhere in the world and you can access it from you computer . You can use an OS in a vps and dedi. Also it's speed depends on the specifications ram , processes and all.

Its not necessarily located in a data center, typically it is, but I have a clustered VPS farm here that I built in my office...

I am curious to info on a VPS too.

When I run scrapebox on my comp at home, it basically freezes all my apps because it sucks up I guess all my computer resources.

So would a VPS allow me to run scrapebox without it affecting my other applications? (Say if I were to run AMR and SEnuke from my home comp, Scrapebox on the VPS?).

I was actually thinking of buying another computer just to run scrapebox, but can I just use a VPS to accomplish this?

    Thanks in advance.

Heyy sorry guys I have another noob VPS question

So i was planning on using Namecheap for purchasing a domain, and then hosting it on hostgator, and then purchasing a VPS to run my SEO programs and such.

Then someone told me that was a waste and I should just host my website on the VPS....im not sure how to do that....but what are you guys thoughts on this?

    Thanks for the info guys!
