There is a website that somebody needs editing done. It's hosted at yahoo but i'm sure was built with something and uploaded to host.
has INDEX.PHP and it's not a HTML site. it's definitely not wordpress..
so just wondering how to go about choosing software to edit it but keep the site the same.
i have access to all the files in the file manager
    THANKS!!!!!!! :clap2:

OP if you don't even know what to use for editing a php file, I will recommend you don't even touch the files. Get notepad++

    Sounds a lot like:

"I know my father needs heart surgery and I want to handle it myself, but I'm not sure where to make the first incision, can you tell me?"

All sites use HTML. PHP can be edited in any text editor (I prefer notepad++, as others have already indicated).

Please don't touch anything before you turn your dads insides into a smoothie...er, I mean, the website files into unusable mush.

    Here you go. ^

Save this as index.html, and delete everything else in the folder. Web design is easy.

Have you checked if there's an admin backend somewhere?. If the website has other pages but you only see one index.php, it's probably running off of a CMS, and possibly using a database too. Are there any folders like "admin", "templates", etc.?.

You can choose anything... text mate, sublimetext, vim, emacs, espresso, dreamweaver.

However, i got a bad feeling about this, do not edit if you have no idea about it... Or, at least get a backup .

Try notepad+ or Dreamweaver - it surely can handle most of languages out there.

Dreamweaver will be able to open the pages, but unless you know whether it pulls anything from a database or is actually part of a CMS then you could stop the site working with a simple change to any of the other files.
