I recently found myself in association with an adult product warehouse that sells just about every kind of sex toy I can imagine (maybe you're able to imagine more, but trust me - it's a lot of sex toys) and they want me to establish and manage their online ventures.

I don't have any experience in the adult niche, but from what I hear it's very difficult. I imagine that the traffic from media buying and general PPC ads is hard to convert, and ranking for adult eCommerce terms like 'buy dildos' or the like is incredibly difficult.
The next best thing I would imagine would be to rank for specific products, like 'Buy Hasbro's Cucumber Dildo'.

Quite frankly, I'm almost clueless. Anything I would be doing right now would be based on pure conjecture, and I'd rather not be in that position. I would, however, love to take on this job, as I feel that I would learn a lot and - because they have virtually no online presence - there's nowhere to go but up from here.

From where should I generate my traffic? What converts best for a tangible adult product? Any and all help and suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks, Art

P.S. - If this is in the wrong section, please direct me to the correct one. I wasn't quite sure where to ask this since it doesn't fit into eBay or Amazon parameters.

Media Buys and Paid Links is the way to go in adult.

Media buys are something that you need to constantly tweak to get a positive ROI, but when you figure it out it is easy to scale.

Going the SEO route, you will probably have to do either paid links or build your own private blog network to support your site.

Yes I have been researching Media Buys.
What should I target? Do you think it's more about quantity here or will certain niches and situations (say, a paid website vs a free one) convert better. Obviously sections that are toy specific will be a safer bet than the alternative. Any suggestions past that?

Additionally, is the social avenue worth pursuing?
I think it would be tricky to get graphic content, or even not particularly graphic content that still displays sex toys would be tricky to get onto most popular social networks.

To be honest with regards to media buys you're going to just have to experiment. There are so many factors that go into conversions that only split testing will give you the answer (sorry I know not the answer you wanted).

As far as social media, I cannnot say from experience in regards to promoting adult related content this way as I do not promote my adult sites this way due to the banned content issue etc.

I am pretty sure that there are some success stories promoting adult stuff via social media, however I think for the most part if you have limited time/resources you should invest your attention in other areas.

media buys is always the way to go with adult traffic, its rare and hard to do SEO with adult traffic. Think about it, unless your blog/website is about penis enlargement, premature ejucalation, etc, then theres really not worth the time to get ROI, media is the fastest and most efficient way for adult traffic as far as traffic generation goes.

OFcause there are other ways, but for the time you spent trying to figure which other "new" methods out there thats free and converts? Why not just stick to what works, and what works for many millionnaires and tweak to make it work for you instead of wasting time and explore other methods which waste you time and money for really nothing.

Thanks, any constructive answer is more than welcomed, and yours seems to be more or less congruent with most media buy advice.
    To quote the great wasted,
It's all about the data. I definitely need to learn how to syndicate, interpret, and tweak it when the time comes.

So you don't think it would be worthwhile to do SEO for individual products?
I'm looking for long-term results as well. I imagine SEO and media buying can have an affect on that.

Of course if anybody else wants to chime I would really appreciate it.

I think my biggest problem is knowing what exactly to target.
I think there are very few niches in adult traffic that convert into tangible product sales.

Does anybody have any ideas for what niches I should target?
