C# is the general starting point.

I don't know about it being a general starting point.. It is a very powerful language but indeed a great one to start with. PHP is a little easier, just about the same syntax as C# and can be used to make bots but C# is my vote. Prepare to give up some things you value in life because when you start you will get stuck on something stupidly easy which takes you an hour or more to figure out. It's the learning process I guess and I wish you the best of luck in your travels.

vb.net is pretty simple, im going to make the leap across to c# soon though, probably better off diving in and going straight for C#

if you're already familiar with vb.net it's not a leap, more of a stutter step.

in my opinion vb.net is better for most BH software applications to c#. not for power or anything of that nature (they're the same), but because of the way that vb.net exposes some of the common functions associated with string parsing and manipulation.

if you're really strong with regex it's not as much as of an issue, they both do an equally good job there, however i'm very weak with regex so the way vb allows you to do Split(), InStr(), and a few of the other string manipulations make it far easier to find things in pages and parse them out.

those considerations aside, with the exception of how the syntax looks they're exactly the same in terms of power and function and if you have any idea what you're doing in vb.net it's a fairly painless transition to start using c#.

that's why i love the framework. same namespaces, same classes, just a slightly different syntax.

to the OP, if you have absolutely 0 knowledge of programming .NET can be a daunting as a starting point. however it will pay off many times over once you get a handle on it.

here are some links to other summaries i have done in regards to this topic:

I'm learning c++ right now and really enjoying it. I'm taking it as a class at school but i plan on learning C# pretty soon as well since it shouldn't be too hard to learn both c++ and c#.

Well C# is slower than c++. But c# is easy to use and is very powerful. I think it 's good for creating bots.

I study computer science in Germany, and we are learning C#.
