I have a potential offline client and I need to do offer White Hat SEO to get him to rank 1, they are currently rank 4. (based on majestic seo I think we have a pretty good chance as the competitors aren't building links to that keyword.)

What sort of links should I do and what should I charge?

Or is it safe using blog networks as the site is over 8 years old.

(I've Only pretty much done grey/black hat seo all with automated softwares)

    Thanks in advance

What industry is the client in? What you will be able to charge will be highly dependent on how much the keyword is potentially worth to the client.

    Links? White Hat?

Your only chance is to do manual searching and manual posting with absolutely relevant information of very relevant blogs and directories and networks.

Frankly, focus on researching keywords and good content generation. Build value instead of building a marketing scheme.

Personally I don't believe anyone is blackhat besides people that take down competitors' sites/sell replica goods or don't deliver anything at all.

We're pretty much all zebrahats, elements of both without getting muddled and mixed into a grey.

sidenote: f off spell check, telling me grey isn't how you spell gray. type Gray in wikipedia and it sends you to Grey. piece of...

Linkpushing is about as white hat you will find on this forum. I've used it for clients, and had good results.

Nothing beats going out there and finding relevant links for your client though. Especially with local sites, links from state/city directories, blogs, etc are gold.

    In the sandbox. Again.
For white hat, I would focus on manual blog commenting and build a reputation to create guest blogging opportunities.

I would recommend to start with some web 20 properties with unique, high quality content. Make some and see how it goes. Then you could try guess blogging - find high quality, relevant blogs/websites and ask owners to publish high quality unique content.

Then, it depends on the budget, you might try to submit the website to a few - 2-3, max 5 high quality link directories. You must find a few good one, dont over do it.

And if all this is not enough then, it depends on the niche and keywords, you could build a few gov, edu links.

Make sure you dont use the same anchor. Make it looks natural

And if all this does not help much, then may be your analysis is wrong.

Mmm I do local seo and rarely rely solely on whitehat.
Get the client on as many business directories as possible.Bookmark all the pages using some form of blackhat(the citations are whitehat, the bookmarking is for indexing and a little more juice)>
Do your web 2.0's manually add a few well spun articles then do a top class article and add link, add 5 more well spun articles over 2 weeks to all the web 2.0's.

Create a video, this can be simply text or as I prefer,a videohive template to look good.
Add the link in the description.Hammer the video link with scrapebox.

This will usually be enough to do the job especially as there is no competition.

DO NOT USE BLOG NETWORKS,they are getting spotted a mile off from google now and are total overkill for your client.Blog networks are NOT whitehat.
All the techniques I have offered are whitehat,if you wish to speed up the indexing use senuke or similar for bookmarking etc as described above.

i think Blog networks are always cool. Manual Back linking will be very useful for your client. but if it hasn't used any significant SEO jobs, then you can do a little bit of automated SEOs. but not too much. as you are a cool black hatter so you can easily understand how to do this.
    :)
or if you have a good budget then do the SEO job manually but with 4/5 persons :)
its the best way to get the best output without any risk ;)

If the client is already on the first page, it would take some serious competition to go blackhat with them.

I would build slowly but fast. Bookmarking will get him out of the front page due to the google dance but it works. High PR commenting is excellent. Manual works best.

After he's first, then move on to consolidating him with web 2.0 then wikis, then blast with scrapebox to make sure they stay there. Only make sure you blast the web 2.0's not his site directly.

Trust me, it works all the time. All my clients are happy with simplicity.

Depending on how many backlincks the site has now dont hammer it with new links too fast and be sure to use some generic anchor text links such as click here to make it appear natural to the search engines
