My employer wants me to do SEO work on the side. He mentioned the idea of taking a percentage of all the sales I get him. If I choose to do this, what's a good percentage you would charge per sale? It's a plumbing company. I work in the accounting office and I'm the one who takes the service calls, so there's no way I would get skimped for money. I would track it through requests through the website and calls through the website (via a phone number that forwards to the office number and allows me to track)

Percentage of sale won't work. Percentage of profit will, however you would need to find out the profit of each product.

Choosing a percentage depends on how much the product costs, e.g if it's a huge house 1% would be awesome, otherwise 5%-10% profit would be great on small items.

You need to take into account how many sales per month you can generate.

Will you get the % if the customer turns into a repeat customer? How can you prove you've generated xxx amount of sales?

Just a few tips, hope they help to some sort of degree lol.
