What % of people actually leave feedback for completed ebay transactions? Does anyone have any ideas how to encourage people to leave feedback?

Its around 50% for me personally.

1.Leave a note in the package
2.Send a message on ebay after they receive their item.
3.Include something extra if you can spare it.
4.Follow up with questions promptly and professionally.
5.If you fudge up, own up to it and take the blame. Never call the buyer out on their stupidity if you can afford to lose the item. If you cannot afford to lose it, do not sell it on ebay.

Never do a combination of any of those following points. Its one or the other.
You dont want to be called out for harassment and loose the account altogether.

50% is about right. Some will leave feedback just before the "you can do so"period expires. That ups it a bit but not much.

All in all - sound advise from cjmixers.

From a buyers side. If you want feedback from me :

Make sure you leave feedback for the buyer as soon as you can after he/she pays for the Item. Some buyers won't give feedback until they get positive feedback from buyer. If a seller did this to me, I would not give any feedback to them. Buyer done his part as soon as he/she paid for the item. This will encourage them give feedback in return.

If after a couple days a buyer doesn't leave you feedback for an item they purchased. You can send them a friendly message thanking them for buying said Item and ask them kindly to give some feedback. If after the email you still don't get the feedback. I would just forget about it.

I don't get why people don't leave feedback. The second i receive my item i check it then go on ebay and leave positive or negative feedback.

So you are one of those who do not care about a sellers reputation ?

How about NOT leaving a neg after you receive a unsatisfactory item ? How about trying to work things out with the seller ? How about spending a few minutes of your time since the seller probably spend a lot of time with you ?

    Damn...

Think you missed my point....also i do care about a sellers reputation and that's why i give them 24 hours to reply and after 24 hours i say f*** them and leave a negative feedback.

    That's not what you wrote:

I don't get why people don't leave feedback. The second i receive my item i check it then go on ebay and leave positive or negative feedback.

I bet you also leave 1 star if you did not get a reply after 30 minutes of sending a message or get your item later than 1 day after you paid.

    bigcasey123 huh?

Lets see if you are selling with the same name. I feel in a buying mood today

You want to create a incentive for them to leave proper feedback. Controversy also works wonders, fake feedback about something negative (but insanely positively good) about your product will have people leaving feedback. Use the psychology of your prospects against them and you can make them leave whatever feedback that you want.

My personal experience 40% top leave feedback.

Get them to feedback by sending an email if everithing was ok, etc... and to leave feed back. !

3 things that I always do that results in me almost always receiving feedback.

1). After receiving payment I always send a message to the buyer. I thank them for their purchase and I tell them when I plan to ship their item. I make this very friendly and I treat them like a person instead of a number, if you know what I mean. Don't make this a pre formatted letter. Actually state the name of the item you're shipping, don't just say item or items.

2). After I ship, I send them another message to give them tracking and to just let them know that their item has been shipped. I thank them for their business and tell them that I hope they enjoy their item(actually say the items name). I also tell them to please contact me with any questions....yada, yada. I tell them that I appreciate their business. A lot of times they even message me back thanking me for letting them know. People really appreciate you doing this.

3). Attach a handwritten note in the package. Again, I thank them for their business, tell them I hope they enjoy their items (say the name of it), contact me with any questions and VERY important....I say, if you are happy with your purchase, please consider leaving positive feedback and I will do the same....have a great day. Always send an invoice also. You must ask for feedback.

Writing a short personalized note really makes them feel special. Make it warm and friendly. I use a sticky pad that's probably 3x the size of a post-it note. It's like a mini stationary sticky note.

It may seem like extra work but its worth it. I learned this because a seller did this for me once and it really made an impression. A lot will leave feedback quickly and some leave it a week later. Try this out and you should see a change if you're willing to put in the extra effort. Just be friendly and personalize, make them feel special and they will reward you. This also keeps complaints down.

There will always be a few people who won't leave feedback but you should try your best.

When the item is delivered, you can leave a note asking them to leave feedback and you'll do the same. Tell them that feedback is necessary for both the seller and buyer.

Offer them a little incentive to post feedback (might be tough for some products)

Remind them and request again couple of times before giving up.

In short, feedback is key and you need to make strong efforts to get it.

In my experience it's significantly less than 50%.

But that might be because I don't leave FB for my buyers (unless they specifically ask for it). Perhaps I should.
