I have been at home for about a week now after graduating college. I have applied to a few jobs and went on a few interviews. He comes into my room while im applying to CPA networks and he asks me what I am doing. I tell him trying to set up an ecommerce business...He was baffled...he was like wtf is that...He said to me...I did not send you to college for four years and spent 60g's so you can do what high school graduates can do..I want you to get a job he says...wtf do i do...i guess i have to get a job until i can make enough online to quit....:rain:

    Any thoughts.

Just keep doing your own thing in your spare time if it's such a big deal with Dad that he will boot you out over it.

Hell, tell him there are 13 year old kids playing Halo tournaments and making more than your dad doing it...cause it's true.

Just because a kid can do it and make BANK at something means you can't do it because you went to college? What kind of backwards ass thinking is that anyway? (No offense meant to pops)

Yeah, just get a regular job, do the IM in free time, then when you make enough money, buy your father anice car, he'll say "WTF did you get the regular job for when you cqn make such money with ecomm" :) but untill then, get a regular job, not for him, but for yourself, you never know ... BTW, your father is right ...

sounds like something my dad would say haha. I moved out almost a year ago. I moved mainly because where I live is 10 min walk to my work. My dad just wanted me to have a job when I didn't have one and once I got one he didnt care what I did.

Don't assume you will be successful at IM. Get a job and work on IM as much as you can. Tell your dad IM is not just for people who didn't go to high school, there are tons of people making 6 figures a year and some making 7 figures, this aint a game lol..

Our dads don't know shit about the new opportunities of the world, but they love us and they want us to suceed. That's why they struggle their lifes for. They invested in us. They want a return and they don't want to spoonfed us anymore. Yea I know a 40 year old guy that still lives with his parents =/

It's a generational thing and there's nothing you can say or show him that will change his mind. I've actually shown my mother checks and she still thinks its some big scam. My parents would be happier w/ me having a job making 25k a year then if I was making 500k a yr. online. The only thing you can do is move out and live your own life.

I agree with that. Once I leave to go to college, there is no way in hell I am moving back in... I would gladly work at McDonald's before I ask my mommy and daddy to let me mooch off them. Don't people want to be independent?

There is nothing wrong with living at home until you get on your feet. If you feel like you are freeloading offer to pay some rent or utilities.

I know a ton of people who have wanted to be "independent" or live on their own without knowing what that entails, they now have massive expenses and have started out in a deep hole.

Live below your means, and when you do move out don't get a baller pad, get something simple until you can actually afford a nice place. I see a lot of people here earning big money but spending it all each month.

Its not that I dont want to get my own place..they dont want me to get my own place yet...They want to keep me under control for a while..i have really strict traditional parents...moving home to them and for me..was not the "Loser" thing to do...it was the only choice...i have to be here

You know what. If you dont have a job. That generally means you aint paying your own way. So no matter what, if you live under your parents roof, your dad can kick your ass as much as he likes.

Get a job, work on IM in your spare time. I agree with Mr E, lap up living with your parents untill you actually can live on your two feet. What i really hate, is people i know moving out of home, and yet their parents paying their rent for them.

If he spend 60G on you then respect him. He is not at all wrong from his side because you haven't proven yourself successful for online business.

It's a good idea to get a job first...concentrate on your job and work on online business ONLY when you have a free time.

    Good luck to you. :D

That's a common thing in my area. People here doesn't move from parents as soon as they finish a school or find a job. We live with our parents pretty much until we get married. Some 20 years ago we would live together even then, but now 99 % move after wedding. Even if that moving is just taking to other flat in the same house.

When I married, I moved to another country, and most of people think I am crazy as I left all behind myself ( having job, big family house etc ) and started from beginning. And I understand those that think like that. I wouldn't mind staying at my home, there is nothing wrong with that. But moving was connected with a way of my life, and the place I live now at is much more related with some things that are very important to me. If that is not case, I would certainly still lived in my father's house.

    IMHO, Get a job...

I did not take a job when I graduated from the uni 6 years ago... Instead, I opened my small business just like my father suggested...
I should have taken a job... I did not know that running a small business is difficult... While the money I make now is quite decent/comfortable, the past 6 years have been rocky/volatile...
IM has to be considered to be a business too... So, get a job and do IM part-time until you have a sound footing on what you want to do next...
At the very least, you will discover things that YOU really love to do...

    Regards

Get a job and do the CPA part-time. Since you live under your father's roof. If you don't like it, move out.

My dad doubted me until my first month I recieved my 3,002 $ check, and successfully cashed it in.

I now make more money than he does, and he makes just under 100k

    Also,

I had a 9-5 job making minimum wage and once I got off my feet then I quit, only because I was going to school though, otherwise I would have had the 9-5, done IM, and go to school.

get a job and work on IM part time until you start earning more than him, just taunt him once you start earning more than him
