    Hello,

Just curious on what people listen to while working.

    I'll start:

I listen to classical music (romantic era mainly) and sometimes jazz when I'm working in front of my computer.

What do you guys listen to? Or do you prefer to work in silence to focus?

It depends on what I'm doing.

If I'm writing, I can't hear lyrics so I listen to Ambient music.

    Otherwise, Alternative Rock.

Kick Ass! I usually listen to instrumental stuff when I'm working though otherwise I'll find myself writing lyrics when I'm trying to write articles.

Either classical or silence. I never understood how people listened to loud crap (or even worse watch TV) while working or doing homework. Those people usually were the ones that needed to visit summer school or got busted down to special ed

For IM though I'm sure it helps the tedious parts, but I hope nobody here listens to rap while writing their articles...

I could see it now; "I know that you can improve your golf swing by just tightening your grip at the right moment, then wham sucka yo that ball flew mad far, shiz son I be lookin like tigah woodz!"

I listen to a variety of things. However, most of it is probably metal. I like less mainstream metal, though. Power metal, gothic metal, symphonic, etc. Rock is good. I lik synth rock, punk rock, etc. Occasionally I'll listen to pop. I like classical but I don't listen to it much. It takes me awhile to get accustomed to slow paced music. I enjoy soundtracks for things like LOTR once in awhile (sometimes while writing).

I don't like country most of the time. I like the odd song or artist (Cash). Rap I don't particularly like, but I used to like it when I was twelve. Eminem is alright. I find that now that I've matured somewhat I just can't listen to rap because of the ridiculous sexism and violence. Now other genres are guilty as well, but it's not nearly as bad.

Music generally doesn't bother me while writing. I don't notice it, but I can use it for ideas if I want. Long term I'd like to make some playlists for writing. If I'm doing a serious article I'd open my serious business playlist. Comedy I'd open the comedy playlist, etc.

Now for studying I generally have to have no music or wordless music. I think that if I want to focus words probably are a negative. But mainly it's just I usually get bored when studying so any distraction is a large one.
