My frustration is mounting over my inability to get a site into the top 2 for my chosen keyword

I have been doing heavy SEO on it since August. It actually got to #4 two weeks ago, but has now settled at #7, and there just is not very much traffic there, especially compared to what I was doing before I got Google Adwords banned.

Here are the stats on my sites, and my competitors, and what I am doing to try and beat them out:

    My site:

23,388 links to the page I am trying to rank for, 41,616 links to the domain. My site is nearly 2 years old

Competitor 1 is the product site, I am not expecting to outrank them

Competitor 2. This is the one I am targeting. His page only has 163 links, though his domain has 4324 links. His site was created 6 months after mine

Not only have I built a lot of links to my site, but I have also built an elaborate link pyramid, and have been building hundreds of links to each site

So what the heck should I do next? I don't want to give up, knowing I am so close to the top. But the frustration is really starting to mount

Strange, are your links mostly the spammy variety? I would look at his 4k links and get likewise.
Could be that G. is still indexing and you will shoot up.

I have my share of spammy links, but I also have a lot of manually posted ones too

A lot of his links are on sites no longer accepting them, or they are Linkvana links.

I have used Linkvana before but I can't really afford it now. Maybe I will just have to bite the bullet and get it

Sounds like you now have to play the waiting game

My last project went to #1 after 10 months and I didn't do anything the last 4 months for it. (No new direct links have been added from anyone either)

You should fight on getting quality releant links with anchor text. Also make shure your on page seo is flawless. If you have questions and problems drop a PM

make sure you get backlinks from a lot of different ip's. it won't help if you just put a lot of backlinks from one ip.

This may ease your mind, but will not help you outrank your competitor
