I know almost everything depends on domain and page stats. BUT,
Assume you have the control over the whole page.
What else would you do instead of just placing a link on the page? (Like keyword or site name in title etc.)

    Cheerss

There is something of a hierarchy when it comes to links/text. I'm not sure if there is a formal study anywhere, but generally speaking, more prominent links are given greater weight. Homepage links > inner pages > posts, etc. Bold/strong links are probably a bit different than regular text, but that was overused back in the days of Hubpages and Ezine articles. All things considered, don't make H1/H2, bold, homepage links for everything. :) Still, I don't think it matters that much.

You'll want to vary the text used, and you should be natural. So, if I'm linking out to a client's site who makes sunglasses. I won't do stuff like 'sunglasses' or 'buy sunglasses'...I'll do something more like, '...the most popular model is xyz' or '...according to experts, the best way to get ready for the beach is to choose a good pair of sunglasses'

There's more to be said, but that's all the time I have. Perhaps other members can chime in.
