Hello guys, I need to get a web server to install a tracking system (Piwik) and a considerable amount of static landing pages (each with their own addon domain). Might eventually go above 100 landing pages, but it would be some time before that as I'm starting from zero.

Since I had to do some modifications to Piwik, I got a free hosting account for testing, but the service (as is expected) is very slow to the point where it doesn't track certain actions on time due to how slow it is.

Also, I have a limited budget so I have to choose a hosting account that costs $10/month or less.

So, my question is, what hosting service do you guys recommend for something like this?

The most important things are: response time from the server for tracking, the ability to create addon domains easily with a control panel (since I need a lot of landing pages), and the ability to host unlimited domains.

I've been thinking cheap VPSs might work, but the "bare" ones where you must install everything might prove to be too challenging for me at the moment and you have to pay $10 for cpanel.

The hosting should be as easy as a shared hosting plan.

    Thank you guys!

You might have to get a managed VPS as shared hosting is not going to do the job. Try finding a web hosting company which can install some free panel for your VPS.

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond!

A managed VPS would certainly exceed $10. Wouldn't a shared hosting plan be enough at the beginning at least? I would migrate after a while.

More than 100 landing pages might be too much, but some 30 might be good on a shared hosting plan. What do you think?

In the Piwik documentation there's this section that talks about performance and they say the following: "If your websites have less than 10,000 pages or events per day (less than 300,000 per month), Piwik works well on fast shared hosting and virtual servers."

Would you recommend any hosting company in particular?

you could go with a self managed vps if you want but if you go and buy a cpanel license that would cost you 15 a month. You would be better off getting a managed VPS account.

Its better to spend a little more to get what you need than to try to save a few bucks and it cost you in the end.

do you already have an existing traffic already or just predicting? if you're really so tight on budget you ought to earn enough to cover the initial expenses then only think about scaling. a shared plan on hawkhost for 4 bucks could handle 1k uniques a day if it's spread out. If you're talking front page of reddit, then 10 bucks might just be out of question.

alternately, you can just get a piwik hosting from someone in lowendtalk, or pay 10 bucks for getclickly, or just use analytics for free.

As for reliable and trustworthy web host, can recommend Swissns.ch services. Use 20% discount promo code: SNS20OFF
The system support has been extremely helpful.. the servers are fast.. the cpanel is well stocked.. and I am extremely happy with their service.

I'd suggest a VPS for this project.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!

In the past couple of days I've been learning my way around VPSs and I already installed a server where I could run Wordpress, Drupal, etc.

I would recommend a not so over populated web host. GoDaddy and HostGator for example has some of the slowest servers.

Go with a lesser known VPS with 1 gigabit LAN and SSD Raid if they offer it. That would give you the best possible speed for a reasonable price. They usually come with DDoS protection and because of the low population you will have less users to worry about messing with the resources. I HIGHLY recommend virmach . com just because of what they offer for the price. Otherwise there is webhostpython . com which has slightly more expensive VPS systems but their hardware is top notch and upload speeds are ridiculously fast.

If 10/mo is your budget you should probably stick to a mid-range shared host and you'll be fine. You can also go with a VPS with a free control panel such as webmin also but you'll need some server management skills if its unmanaged otherwise you run the risk of being hacked which would be a disaster for you site and may be more costly than paying extra for management.

Just go with a shared plan, if there is any problem, they will tell you to upgrade themselve.

You don't need cPanel if you are hosting only piwik. Grab a good SSD based Linux VPS and install Piwik on it.

At this budget you can afford a self-managed VPS once you have it you can install piwik. If you go for an managed VPS it will be costly
