What is the best laptop to purchase for $200(or less), or, would I have to buy used? Name laptop model please.

My needs are, downloading information products(hence download section sites), watching videos, and, doing business stuff. Chating in IM via skype, social network sites(instagram),etc. I suppose there arent any new computers I could buy with storage as good as my macbook for that cost. It is the only laptop I have ever gotten that didnt crash on me.

    what do you suggest?

    Go for used model.

You could never find a new laptop good enough for ANY Im purposes for $200.

Plenty of decent sub $200 used laptops on ebay. Try to buy off someone with a lot of feedback. Ive bought plenty of good cheap machines over the years, some of them have had little use although most of them will need mains plugins as the batteries are unreliable on used laptops.

Used computers are the best. Check your local classifieds and retailers. Should be able to find a nice deal

You most definitely won't find something at that price that runs as good as a mac. I got my first mac earlier this year and it pains me to use any other computer. This is what I did. I went to eBay (as someone suggested above), found a reputable seller and bought myself a refurbished Asus laptop to use for scrapebox and etc. It runs nicely (of course NOT like a mac) but compared to my other windows based laptops, it runs fantastic. I paid 259.00 for a ASUS X401U 14" 320GB Windows 7 LAPTOP NOTEBOOK PC 4GB. If you shop around, you will probably find one closer to 200. Look for other models as well. You can return things on ebay if they don't work, so don't worry about that.

I am presuming you are in the US due to referencing $ in you price tag so I am unsure what kind of stores you have to choose from but from my own experience with a computer store here in the UK (PCWorld) I was able to buy a reasonably good spec laptop (2.10 dual core 3gb ram 320gb H/D) etc that was sold as refurbished, now many might say that just means second hand which technically is correct but it came with a full 12 months warranty so it was just as good as buying new, and the price was a penny short of £200.

So it may pay to check out any stores that sell refurbished laptops before buying new or outright second hand.

i already seen deals on there. The reason why I created this post is because I trust the community know far more about computers than I do. I have been eyeing acer for a while, but, I also read that you shoudlnt buy refurbished computers. I just wanted to get a feel for what is best since I am a tech phobe at heart. i have seen laptops for under $200, but, then the jargon of what they bring to the table gets my mind overloaded so for clarity I came in here to see what would be best. Thanks for your input.

Try to get something with 2-4 GB of RAM and some nice processing power. Doesn't have to be top-notch, but just so you can easily open a few tabs on chrome/firefox and download/upload stuff without the hassle of lags and freezings.
