Create layers
tier 1_ authority sites (readable content useful enough to share)
tier 2_Own Private network (can host aged domains on free hostings and point to tier 1 to enhance)
tier 3_ Crappy links basically, xmurer and stuff just bump tier 2 and trying to index most of tier 2 as possible
RSS mix and spread
Rise and repeat as necessary

use unique content atleat 500 words and high PR websites for keyword ranking.

Actually all organic LB methods are useful yet. But it's depend on website, niche, competition that which strategy is working for you. For me natural social share of each new post , unique article submission at Ezinearticles, Q&A is working where website is updating regularly each week with new post.
