    I would like to monitor all exit attempts or new window opens from my page, check to see if this url is the one I'm trying to catch, and then alter it with a redirect url.

    What is this?

    basically, you need watch every link of your page
    Code:
        $$('a').each(function(a){
            if a.src.... etc etc, you also can attach a function on click events
        });

    For anyone confused by the "$"s, it's syntax for JQuery or Dojo or some other javascript scripting engine. (So you can't just copy and paste that code--you need to use JQuery or Dojo or whatever it is for.)

    well, the thing is that this is a last fm streaming media widget, that has a buy it now button, I want to redirect that buy it now outbound link to a itunes affiliate link.

    so I do not have the option to id the <a , I ahve to somhow discover if an exit attempt is happening.

    if not a, then it must be button, input or img. It must be some element in the page.
