So I created a site a couple of months back. It's a partial EMD (www onlinekeyword) and I've been using the keyword 1-2 times per article. I've got about 10 articles of 500 words each. Except for a few social media links, the site only got 4 backlinks (from my own PBN), with anchor text containing two URL, one exact match and one partial match. The site got to about spot 40 in SERPs for a couple of weeks, and now when I checked it's 200. Google Webmaster Tools says nothing about a penalty, all PBN sites are still indexed and I've written all content manually myself. So how is this even possible? I can't see how the on-page stuff would be over-optimized and it's only 4 backlinks. Anyone got an idea what this could be? I know the rank wasn't very good to start with, but now I don't know if I should drop the site all together or keep chipping away at it.

I guess your site is young and it's a main reason. 4 links - it's not enough for competition niche.

The competition for my keywords is not too difficult, and that's what makes me so puzzled. I'm still jumping between rank 180-240 for my main keyword, even though I'm building more links. Guess it could be sandboxed, but GWT classed this keyword as not being relevant when I checked the tab, so I increased the KW density on my homepage and some other internal pages, as well increased anchor text ratio. So my next question now is this: Do you think it would be alright to use a 1% KW density on my homepage even though it's an partial match domain in addition to using it in the title tag? And I was also wondering, does abbreviations count as the keyword itself or as an LSI, for example in plural like elephant and elephants? In my language there are several other abbreviations that changes the word itself instead of using "the" in front of it.

Google often gives some good initial results to new sites and then pretty soon drops them back right down.

Brand new sites get a "fresh" boost on the new index. Then when it starts to migrate to the big index it usually falls.

    Also, you need more links.
