For those doing SEO for small businesses, I'm just curious how is it these days? I was doing it about 7 years ago. Since that time I've heard it is so crowded no one wants to hear the term SEO these days.

I start with citation then move to competitors backlink analysis and it works.
    My clients are mostly lawyer.

The SMB crowd has def been inundated with non-stop solicitation from SEO service providers. You need a unique angle imo. That's the bad news. The good news is that MOST small business owners now understand at least the basics and value of SEO. So their is less of an "educational" curve when trying to explain.

For us, we always took a value driven approach. Contingent contracts. i.e. Our fees are contingent upon us meeting certain ranking/traffic benchmarks. If we can't perform, you don't pay. Initial deposit to weed out tirekickers that gets applied toward their first service bill.

    Regards,

    SEO is dead.

    It's been known since 2012.

    Then mentioned again in 2013.

Oh, and then in 2014 everyone said SEO was dead.

2015 it was the same news...SEO...done.

Then came 2016 and again, it was announced that SEO has died.

We are now in 2017, and SEO will once again pass away.

    RIP.

I own a small business and I get 3-6 calls a day, I block all of them, but it never stops.
    It's annoying as fuck.
