Could someone please help out by giving some info to this blackhat noob? What are the monthly search volumes and SOC for a keyword or phrase to be considered to be a "micro niche"?

Well from reading a bunch of other threads 5 to 6k monthly searches seems to be the amount where you start seeing some money coming in if your ranking well.

For me micro niche is 4k to 30k exact searches, after this you can receive a decent amount of visits.

Im using Global, but if you can find keywords with high searches and low competition in local its probably going to be easier to rank for.

Should I only be using .com domains? What about country-level TLDs?

.com .org and .net are the best,it is not all the same, you think that a .info that is 0.99$ is the same as a .com that is 9$ ? of course not.

country level domains also are good.

Well there's no set numbers that you would choose. You have to find a niche with more than 4kish searches on what your trying to rank for. It should have low competition and a somewhat easy niche to write or get articles and content for. You then should use some sort of tool to see the top ranking sites for that keyword and see what the competition really is. If you think you can rank for it you should go ahead. Just make sure you find a exact keyword match for a niche. I've made that mistake before and bought a domain that sucked :(
