What is the safest way to use torrents now that there's crackdown on VPN providers?

Some of the best VPN providers are being threatened or have been sued over copyright violations using their networks. I just wonder now, considering my favourite VPN was also hit, how people browse torrents

Which VPN are you currently using?

I'm seeing it's mostly with Express VPN & PIA/Nolog(lag) VPN.

Here's a link to the court document in reference: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/21580868-hollywood-vs-expressvpn-pia?responsive=1&title=1

Though, it says in that document that Express VPN & the other VPN companies are maintaining that they don't keep records of their customers internet activity. So, you're probably good for the time being.

Shit! I didn't realise they got hit too! I thought all these big name companies were a scam anyway.

I am using LiquidVPN

Can I ask, how often are you downloading? I have around 500GB of things on this drive and I've never been sent so much as an email.

I want to say you'd be fine using one of the top 5 VPN companies given that their legal department could handle such inquires.

If you're really worried of it though, consider looking up how to be fully anonymous while downloading. I won't type it up here.

Nowhere near that amount in total.
Both of my top VPN providers got hit. There's lots of news emerging on this as of late. I am hoping you're right about this and that it's ultimately the VPN providers responsibility but you can never be too sure.

The safest way to use torrents is to move to a country that doesn't give a fuck about torrenting.

The second safest is to use stay behind a Tor Relay. Or using enough anonymization techniques like self hosting a seeder/downloader in a country that doesn't give a fuck about torrenting, encrypting the data and uploading the files to your local ftp server.

You are prolly worrying too much. There are too many pirates out there on the Sea, they can't enforce laws for all of them. Just don't raise your sails too high.

That's the VPN providers main legal defense as of right now (that they don't keep customer internet records. They may keep accounting records, but just having a billing account with a VPN company doesn't imply guilt).

So, if they truly don't keep data records of their clientele, we are golden.

Even if they did, they'd be looking to pursue seeders and the actual piraters of said copyrighted movies & material. We would be small fish, bud.

Well said and I think...
