What is the realistic cost of having a site like this coded/programmed?

    http://gamebattles.com/

Is there any way that if I was able to get a site coded/programed like this (even if it costs a LOT) that I would be able to keep the content (images, writing, etc) updated even if I have no coding or programing knowledge?

I guess I am wondering if a CMS could be integrated with something like this or if I would need to hire someone full time to keep the thing updated.

Thank you in advance for your time and help BHW community.

the template could go from $300 to $1500.
Site itself could be based on Drupal.
Entire development could cost from $700 to $4000 depending on who you find to do it.

I haven't looked too deep into it, but if there is a lot of custom coding, custom module development, etc. the price can grow considerably.

these sites go anywhere from 400 to couple grand. I have looked into this for my site... on top of that they need usually a dedicated server, but the earnings are nice on autopilot

WOW this site is big, whole concept is big... It will cost you several grands for sure to just get basic site ready then promotion and other cost will come up...

Think again before you start making this because site cost is nothing, actual cost is promotion of this site... And don't fall for some cheap source, give this kind of project only to such company who got some experience in making project like this one...

Such site would cost at least $xxxxx. There's a lot of coding, you will not find standard modules for this.

If you get a professional company (they will have a whole team working on it), it will be at least $5-6000. If you hire a freelancer who isn't terrified of the project, the price ranges above are good.

I'm sure you could get a CMS (custom or premade) to manage the site, but there's so much content that you would still probably need a team unless you had a ton of time on your hands.

its one of the top sites for Major League Gaming....

I hope your not trying to "compete" with them. They have been around for years (i used to use gamebattles 5+ years ago)

Unless u have some "edge" on the video game industry i dont think you would create a big enough hype around your site to be a popular name like GB

Not that you as a person are incapable, just GB is a "household" name for MLG and it would be hard to "convert" all those Heavy Hitters...

There's a lot more stuff in that site than meets the eye.

I was gonna say $6K+ (as per artizhay's calculations). But the site needs to be integrated with the games somehow - to track your scores and rate you.

Let me tell you, unless you create a very detailed mindmap with all the things you want in YOUR site, you will mostly get completely inaccurate quotes.

    That site has got:
    - 6 categories of games (Xbox, PS, PSP, PC etc)
    - Several games in each category
    - Ability to join, create teams, play tournaments etc
    - Video blog (with LIVE anchors)
    - Store
    - Forum/community
    - News alerts
    - Promos & contests

And if you look closely - it looks like they are a part of another huge site 'MGLPro'. And they have millions of active users (playing their live games). So they have got both the money (investment capital) and the users (for economies of scale).

I am guessing they have put $100-150K in the initial development and at least $10-20K a month in keeping it running. And I feel I am being very conservative here.

Of course there are ways to get it done for much cheaper (like $30-40K maybe and say $2K pm after that). But THEY seem to have gone with a very good agency and must be paying top dollars for everything.

it doesnt automatically update the "matches" that are played (unless of course they have changed it)

The losing team is supposed to report the Loss themselves..

Thank you for the response. If you have any more insight or suggestions based on any feedback you have gotten when doing research I would greatly appreciate it.

When doing your research were you able to find any qualified programmers/coders that you would suggest?

Thank you. Your feedback is appreciated. That is def in my price range. Any suggestions on where to go for good RELIABLE coders for such a project? Any insight into what questions I should be asking?

I am primarily a marketer by trade and can do most general IM stuff, but programming/coding is NOT in my list of skill sets.

    Thanks!

That is exactly what I am thinking. Problem is that I have NO experience in coding/programming and don't know the first place to look for a RELIABLE team to get something like this done.

I realize to do this right it is a BIG, Long-term project and will need to be well thought out. I do have the funds to invest, but if I'm gonna risk that much I want to be careful about my planning and execution.

Any suggestions about where to start looking for a coder would be great.

    Thank you!

Thank you. Your feeback helps. Any suggestions on a quality company to get some estimates from?

I appreciate your honesty with the price ranges. I wanted to know the reality of this thing. I think maybe I can look into a smaller scale version of this...maybe more niche specific to start and scale as necessary.

Thank you. I agree. As I kept on "digging" into the site I found that it is much more vast than meets the eye. It has some components I would be looking to keep, and others (including content) I would not.

I'm going to work on a detailed business plan and mindmap for this and see where that takes me in terms of cost. Like it has been mentioned, my primary concern would be attracting and keeping users.

My firm wouldn't touch this for less than $5k. Negotiations would start at $10k. This would really just be for a CMS, template, and static pages. None of the custom database or API work that this site is clearly using.

Could we discuss offline, PM or on AOL/MSN messenger.

I want to more clearly outline what aspects of the "example" site I would be looking for and some others not mentioned here that I would rather share privately. Do you have a company website I can check out?

Like I said, I do have money to invest and would be looking to get this project started within the next 3 months.

Let me know. Thank you for your time and consideration.

What really makes that site successful is the army of teenagers that have no lives. Your website's target audience is also very important as well.
