I have not been able to get a direct answer to a question I have. I will give thanks to everybody who answers in a helpful way.

I understand the purpose of faking the referrer, and I have used this method successfully for a while now. But what is the purpose of "blanking" the referrer?

When I asked this before I was told that it does not replicate direct-linking the offer. So what is the purpose of "faking"? What does this method replicate to the end viewer of your traffic stats? Email campaigns?

Blanking makes the referrer empty so the end viewer of your traffic stats will see no referrer. This is normal practice for affiliates who want to protect their traffic sources from getting stolen so your CPA network shouldn't have any problem with it.

I do no know why people do it.... but the reason i do it is as follows:

I blank it when I do not want people to know where my traffic is coming from.

I fake it when I want people to think my traffic is coming from a certain site.

I work directly for a lot of advertisers, I bypass the CPA networks. With them I blank it.
They normally just care for good conversions and the reason I blank it is that most of my traffic is paid traffic... I do not want to let them know where its coming from and have them bypass me... lol

I always fake as a matter of practice. Some programs will be fine with blank referrers but some will treat it as a red flag, so instead I always fake the referrer to a nice full page ad for the product in question. It just looks professional and saves any hassles.

So if a person was being creative with a CPA offer that would normally be direct-linked by affiliates, does it look strange to fake? Considering that most affiliates wouldn't use an LP for such an offer?

This is my main issue.
