I've been reading over the various forums, and I understand blogs as a function of backlinking of microsites, but I still don't understand what the point of having all these wordpress blogs is?

My initial thought is that it's like an easier microsite with no investment but any income from them has to be fractional, and some of these guys look like they are serious.

So my question is what is the point of having 20 blogs when compared to 20 microsites?

    Thanks for indulging me!

Wordpress is great because of all its plugins and its admin panel. You can build your microsites in a fraction of the time. You don't need to build blogs with wordpress, you can build any kind of site when you customize the install.

These days I use Wordpress to develop every website I produce.

One main advantage is that with Wordpress you have access to literary thousands of plugins.

With those plugins you can perform task such as very basic SEO which when working with HTML can become cumbersome at a minimum.

so by blog you are referring to a style of site not specifically having a blog at a site like blogspot?

i get that wordpress removes some of the effort, i'll probably program my own site generator since i do web applications as part of my daily job but i am curious what the hell 'blogging' exactly refers to - i thought it meant like blogs on blogspot, but you mean that it could also include wordpress microsites?

You can have a blog on blogger.com or wordpress.com, but WordPress also has a self-hosted blog, so you can install and run it on your own domain.

WordPress blogs are used for blackhat purposes for a number of reasons. First, they are easy to use, have hundreds of plugins, and don't require any programming knowledge. Second, WordPress blogs are free. You only have to pay the cost of the domain registration and hosting, which is a minimal expense. Third, WordPress blogs are extremely SEO friendly and the search engines love them. Fourth, there are thousands of free themes that are written with clean xhtml and css. Fifth, because WordPress blogs are so popular you'll leave no footprints if you are doing blackhat. Sixth, if you are smart, WordPress blogs can be extremely efficient to use and make you a lot of money for a small amount of time/money investment.

Hopefully that helps you see the light that self-hosted WordPress blogs are the way to go.

Because content is king, and for non-technical users (and for time-strapped technical users), producing quality content on an ongoing basis can be a pain in the ass and can be made much easier when you leverage blogging software.

Good question though, it is important you learn all you can to as why software such as wordpress is so popular before you go about building you own cms.

Blogs are superior because they are constantly updated compared to static web pages, and also because of flexibility of plugins and SEO targeting.
