Not that I'm against this forum or anything but what is the point of referrals. I mean those for this forum. What will happen if we refer a person to this forum and he/she registers? I haven't done that. Is it a feeling of satisfaction or something like that? Or is it, if we refer 100 people we will get the donor status?

I'm asking this just out of curiosity. Hope I haven't offended someone and I'm not against this forum, I repeat, I'm not against this forum.

I don't think there is any point in it, unless they are mapping our social networks.

It would be cool if they did that. But only if the person who registers is active for 2 or so months and has 100+ posts. Then as a thank you they could give you the Donor or Jr. VIP status or something like that. If they count every sign up many people would misuse it.

Basically, they should be like 000WebHost, it doesn't matter if the person signs up through you aff link, if he/she doesn't create a website in the next 30 days and if it isn't active for 30 days you won't be paid.

I don't think it's a good idea to let people become reputable members of the forum simply because of how many people they refer. It should be about how much they have contributed to the forums existing members and how much value they have provided.

That being said it is strange that the referal system exists when it doesn't seem to serve a purpose, to my knowledge anyway.

Yes . . . it is a way of saying Thank You to BHW for what you have gained here.

We (the moderators and admins of BHW) work our butts off day in and day out
here with no pay whatsoever. That is OUR way of showing our appreciation.

Well, at the moment the only way to gauge reputability is post count and thanks. Hardly pillars of excellence as benchmarks go.

Best way is to just assume everyone is disreputable and go from there. EDIT: Even Wizzy up there, wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him :D ;)

This is just an idea, but you are right. It is a mystery to me as well.

    Are you against this forum?

    j/k

There are actually 2 ways of introducing people, by either invitations or referrals.

I put my referal link out in a few places and got 3 sign-ups. I will use invitations for friends etc.

I would love to know who the sign-ups were. Hope they weren't cocks.

That's okay by me . . . I wouldn't trust you either, since you just recently joined.

Like anything else, it takes a while to build trust. However, I am confident that
most of the members trust me. I have been here almost 6 years now.

Then we're on a level playing field eh. But no, you must have been doing something right to get supermod status. And if I ever give the forum a reason to deem me untrustworthy, I hope that I would be banned forthwith.

But couldn't something be done with the referral system, at the moment it does nothing. You could at least display how many referrals a person has in their profile.
