i see allot of people buying views or using bots to get allot of views on a YT video. i do not understand the purpose of this.

Making a YT video appear that allot of people have viewed it does not help rankings. It just gives a false impression that allot of people viewed your video.

So why buy views or use a bot? Is it an ego thing? Or what?

Please look up High Retention Views then come back and correct your post. Also you might want to look up psychology about herd mentality and authority submission behaviors and then APPLY that to WHY people buy views for videos. More views = trigger for viewers mind the video is good and popular and WORTH viewing.

If the views are coming from real people and you have them a lot, you'll be somewhere on the first page of Google for your keyword so yes, vies do matter.

WOW!! You really are new to YouTube marketing.
Youtube retention views can get you ranked higher in searches.
More real views after buying views = more $$$

I am willing to believe allot of views helps, but it seems that it is speculation.

I have read through googles policies and I dont see where it says that. I see where they say it might be one consideration.

I have many videos ranked without views. So how do you figure that? I have some videos on G first page with no views.

Do you people think that even a bot that gets the views is the same? I mean views are views right? Google has no way of knowing a bot did it or not.

Maybe the psychology of it is good for some videos. But if you have something people want, I dont think it will matter will it?

I am half pulling your leg and half serious here. But maybe the people getting a little upset are the people selling views?

Is what I am saying really garbage? I am willing to admit I am wrong. maybe you can help be be convinced. Just dont claim I am wrong. Show me I am. I am easy to persuade.

I think there are 2 issues here. 1. the psychology of it as people say, and 2. the rankings.

i get #1 ranking without views so that counts that out right?

So that leaves only the psychology. is that all you are talking about that matters?

Ok I can see your point there. That is the only thing I can see allot of views would help with.

But would this also matter about the product you were selling? I mean if you have something someone wants are they going to look at the low view count and decide no?

It is just a way of looking more popular than you really are. Tricks others into thinking that you are popular on there.

Bought views does rank a video if it's high quality views together with likes, favorites, comments etc. The reason you ranked your video without views is because it probably was a really easy keyword you ranked for. But try rank for a keyword with 50k exact searches / month, where most of the vids ranked has 50k views and more. :)

Yeah I can see that. But I dont think that it will increase the likely of someone viewing it if it really is something they want to see. maybe it could in some cases.

That is a good point. The keys I ranked for are very nitch. But one thing I noticed about google is that if they put videos on page one then that means they like videos for that key to be on page one. So i have been able to rank right up there with a many view video with no views simply because i think google just wanted videos there. Had nothing to do with how many views i had.

But I would think that if you are trying to compete on a hard key word that Views would still be the last thing that would matter. Good back links would matter way more than views...right?

what is a high quality view?

if a bot logs on with a proxy and clicks the play button and lets it play to the end, what difference is it than when a real human does the same thing?

I am not trying to be argumentative, I am really trying to learn.

I'm not sure how it would work if you had thousands of proxies and viewed the vid once with every proxy, but let's say you have 100 proxies and put 1000 views to your video. That means that 1 proxy viewed the vid 10 times, which definitely looks weird to YouTube. And who would buy thousands of proxies to add views?

Another thing that is counted is the retention of the views. Let's say that your video is 1 min long, and most people click away at 10 seconds. Then it shows YouTube that your video isn't of high quality since people click away that fast. If you have views that are watching the video like 80% - 90%, it shows YouTube that your video is worth watching and therefore it gets ranked higher. :)

Also, a thing that I haven't researched very much is the difference between mobile and "normal" views. (Normal = Watched from a computer). Some views providers are only delivering views that comes from mobile devices, which also looks somewhat weird to YouTube. :)

A few years back youtube didn't take so many factors into consideration. If your video had a well SEO optimized Title, Description and a bunch of tags was good
enough for the first page in almost any niche. Now there are a lot of videos in the same niche that have well optimized T,D,T so youtube has to look at # of views, view retention, backlinks, at how many times the video was shared on Facebook, tweeter etc. This way YT knows if your video is more popular and likeable than other videos in the same niche and is worthy for the first page or not. So that's why people push views/likes/favs etc to their videos.

Of course backlinks are important for your video but you have to keep a natural looking balance between views/likes/backlinks/shares/subs
otherwise it would look suspicious in youtube's eyes if your video had 4000 backlinks and only 2000 views.
